It is easy to give yourself a goal and write it down. Getting that goal accomplished is not.
Most people go into their goals without giving themselves any kind of plan to get there. If you want to double your sales, how are you going to make that happen. The only way to make your goal happen is by giving yourself a plan and implementing that plan.
I find it annoying when people wish upon a star. Most people who wish upon a star simply wish for something to happen, and just by making the wish, most people expect that wish to automatically happen. No matter how many stars you wish upon, that goal will not get accomplished without a plan.
A goal without a plan is just a wish such as becoming a professional athlete and have a big house. How could those things possible happen? Creating the right plan will allow you to experience the results you want to see.
Stop wishing and start planning.

You’re absolutely right. You need goals, plans and action to get what you want. You need to plan how you’re going to achieve your goals and then you need to act on those plans or else you’re, as Marc said, just wishing.
Good reminder.

Thank you Farid. Sometimes we need to be reminded of the simplest but most valuable lessons. I find it intriguing that the most valuable lessons are also the simplest and most straightforward.

Writing goals is a great start. Studies prove that goals that are written down and backed up with a written action plan are more likely to be achieved.

I recall hearing something similar Tamira. Brian Tracy did a phenomenal video about time management where he mentioned that writing down your goals will result in you accomplishing more things compared to just thinking about your goals.

Brilliant post!
It’s so refreshing to hear someone apply common sense to the goal setting theory. I fully agree you should set goals, but you’re so right- people think that just by setting a goal it will materialize.
Unfortunately, it’s not so simple.

I agree Reece, and I wish that just because something is written on paper does not mean that goal is going to magically get accomplished. It takes a lot of work to accomplish the goals you write down for yourself. I write over 20,000 words every week for tweets, blog posts, books, school, and other things as well. Those words don’t get written down just because I wrote on a piece of paper that I need to write 20,000 words this week. Instead, those words got written down because I wrote it on a piece of paper and put in the work. We have to put in effort in order to accomplish our goals.
