When your tweet gets retweeted, it is being shared to potentially thousands of people. If you get retweeted by a person with over 100,000 followers, your tweet will be in front of over 100,000 other people. This is why it’s becoming more important to get those retweets. Here are 11 ways to get more retweets.
- Tweet consistently. If you want people to retweet, they have to know when you tweet. Use HootSuite to schedule your tweets.
- Tweet motivational quotes. Everyone is looking for those quotes, and almost all of the motivational quotes I tweet get retweeted.
- Have a following. Having a following always helps out towards getting more retweets. If you don’t have your first 1,000 followers yet, here are 10 proven ways to get your first 1,000 followers.
- Retweet other people’s tweets. Give and you shall receive.
- Start more conversations. The people who you talk with may decide to retweet one of your tweets.
- Include RT, rt, or r/t at the end of your tweet. Asking improves your changes as long as you avoid saying, “Please Retweet.”
- Put tweets up on your blog. Although I don’t do this, I have a Twitter icon which leads to my account. Both work.
- Make your tweets retweet-worthy. A tweet with a typo doesn’t get retweeted by anyone. Everyone will notice the typo instead of the rest of the tweet.
- Be relevant. If you tweet about baseball, news about baseball teams is what your followers want to see.
- Stay on the lookout for the ripple effect. If someone retweets your tweet to 100,000 followers, chances are that some of those 100,000 followers are going to retweet your tweet as well. You won’t get all 100,000 followers to retweet your tweet, and you’d be lucky if you got 100 of them to retweet your tweet. However, you’re bound to get at least 10 retweets that way. The small ripple turns into a big ripple, and then you become viral (being viral isn’t as easy as it sounds though).
- Keep on tweeting. You only get all of those tweets by not giving up. When you keep on tweeting, you will eventually get to 100,000 followers. You won’t need the person with 100,000 followers to retweet your tweets. You’ll be that guy with 100,000 followers.

Thank you Harshad. I am happy to hear that you liked the article. “RT” and “rt” are both two characters while “r/t” is three characters. It’s amazing how 2-3 characters can make a difference in the amount of retweets a tweet gets. Of course, if overused, this method will lose its effectiveness.
