There are a lot of ways to build your presence as a blogger, and one of those methods is commenting on other people’s blogs. You hit on a nice point Miriam. For the blogger, comments are reassurance that the content is good. As much as we wish we could say all of our content is valuable, bloggers can primarily tell if their content is valuable based on how the audience engages with the content.

Hi Marc! Could you explain why commenting to blogs leaves backlinks to our blogs?
There is a section on almost every blog commenting system that allows you to include a website. By including a link to your blog in that section, that creates the backlink. It won’t be life changing traffic, but if you comment on numerous blogs, your blog will eventually get more attention directly because of your comments.
Sometimes we get stuck because we don’t know what to say in our comment. I find helpful to let readers know that a simple, “Thanks” is enough to start the conversation. As a blogger, I also find it helpful to prompt readers with a yes/no or other easy-to-answer question. With that said…
