5 Social Media Myths Debunked

November 17, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

The typical newbie does everything he/she can in order to learn more about social media. However, there are some myths that newbies will think are true. These myths can stagnate progress or make someone go in the wrong direction. These are the 5 big social media myths that trick a lot of people.

  1. There are no golden ratios. A classic one is to post about other people’s content 80% of the time and your content only 20% of the time. Some people only post about their content while others post about their content more than half of the time. If your content is helpful, your followers won’t mind.
  2. Getting over 100,000 followers is possible. The best way to increase your following quickly is by following other people on your social networks, getting follow backs, and posting consistently. Once you find a way to master the system, you could get 100,000 followers before the following year comes to an end. All you need to do is discover a way to consistently gain 274 followers every day. Once you master a way to do that, you will get hundreds of thousands of followers every year.
  3. Your results are going to get a lot better as you go. Whether you are gaining 5 followers every day or 50 followers every day, more people are starting to know about you. As you find more methods to increase your following while continuing to use the methods you are already implementing, you will be able to get hundreds of followers every day.
  4. You should schedule tweets for as many times of the day as you can with HootSuite. Tweeting every 15 minutes is okay as long as you tweet like that on a consistent basis. You won’t annoy your followers by tweeting too many times if you are consistent. Then, your followers will know when to expect your tweets, and as they see you more on their timeline, their trust for you will grow.
  5. Friends will be very helpful towards your success on social media. Some people view the definition of “being in business” as when a stranger buys your product. If your friends share your posts on social media, they are reaching out to a larger group of people. Each time one of my friends shares one of my blog posts, my blog gets more traffic. Your friends are going to be very helpful; don’t be afraid to ask them.

What started out as an online diary has taken significance importance towards getting more sales, traffic, and a unique voice on the web. Although blogs cannot be successful overnight, they can be successful after implementing various methods for a long period of time. There are a lot of bloggers who just started and are trying to make their blog the go-to place. Here are 100 ways to do that.

  1. Update your blog consistently. People won’t forget about you.

  2. Share your blog posts on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and any other social network you can think of.

  3. Track your statistics. This will allow you to see which days you are getting the most traffic on your blog as well as which blog posts bring the most traffic to your blog.

  4. Have an About Me page on your blog. People need to know your story in order to have a reason to stick around.

  5. Make your subscribe button easy to see. This will result in more subscribers, and more people will be emailed each time you come out with a new blog post.

  6. Give people a free product when they subscribe to your blog. The free product can range from a video to a PDF. This will encourage them to subscribe.

  7. Over deliver whenever you can. In addition to the free product you guaranteed, offer another free product or service as well.

  8. Have good headlines. The headlines for your blog posts should make your visitors want to read on.

  9. Include words in your headlines and your blog posts to boost your SEO. The search terms that people are entering into Google to find your blog should also be in your blog’s content.

  10. Promote your products on the sidebar, not in the front of your blog. The content of your blog is going to get people to subscribe to your blog, and those subscribers will eventually buy your product, not the other way around.

  11. Blog daily. If you blog daily, people are going to expect another blog post the following day. Some people will go on your blog the next day just because they know new content will be up there.

  12. If you can send out a blog post more than once every day, that’s even better. If you choose to send out two blog posts every day, make sure you can do that consistently.

  13. Give your blog a clear identity. This will give people something to talk about when they tell other people about your blog.

  14. Comment on other people’s blogs. This will give you more backlinks and visibility on the web.

  15. Look at the top blogs of your niche and look for common patterns. Following those patterns will allow your blog to get more traffic.

  16. When you look at the top blogs of your niche, take different characteristics from each of those blogs and blend them together on your blog. If you get the results you wanted, keep the changes. If you did not get the results you were expecting, keep on experimenting and making changes.

  17. Choose a name or URL that people will remember. Remembering a name is a lot easier than remembering a sentence. Typing in the name is also going to be a lot easier than typing the sentence.

  18. Increase your presence on social networks. Here’s how you can do that with Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus, and YouTube.

  19. Use YouTube because it is going to dramatically increase the number of visitors you get.

  20. Publish YouTube videos consistently and share them on social networks. I publish one YouTube video every Saturday at 9 am EST.

  21. Put links on your blog that direct people to your other blog posts. This will increase your traffic and SEO.

  22. Offer a Q&A on your blog that either gets done via email or comments. Answering questions quickly will make people happy enough to subscribe to your blog.

  23. Give people the chance to contact you. Someone may contact you with an interview offer.

  24. Don’t give up on blogging.

  25. If you’re thinking about giving up, you need to see this picture.

  26. The content on your blog shouldn’t fit your needs. It should fit the needs of your visitors.

  27. Include social media buttons at the bottom of your blog posts so people can easily share them.

  28. Write quality content that people will want to share.

  29. Install the TablePress plugin to put tables up on your blog. This will allow you to organize and present information on your blog better than ever. Maybe you can incorporate a “Table Tuesday” or “Table Thursday.”

  30. When recommending products, don’t be afraid to promote your competition. Visitors will recognize you for being honest, and your blog will appear on Google for your competitors’ keywords.

  31. Tweet every hour with some of your blog posts. Once you have over a thousand blog posts, you will be able to tweet for days without any repeated tweets. You should be sending tweets about at least 5 of your blog posts every day.

  32. Start conversations on Twitter. The people you talk to will decide to look at your profile. When they see the link to your blog, they will click on that link.

  33. Do not rush a blog post. The best blog posts come after a lot of thought.

  34. For 5-10 minutes, jot down a bunch of ideas for your future blog posts. The advantage of having a lot of ideas to choose from is that you decide which ones get implemented and which ones don’t.

  35. Schedule your blog posts days ahead so staying consistent is not a pain. Then, you will be able to write really long blog posts like this one.

  36. Some of your blog posts should be lists. The bigger the list, the more visibility it is going to get.

  37. Include a link to your blog in your email signature. Don’t miss the opportunity to promote yourself in a powerful way.

  38. If you are a speaker, pass out a form to your audience asking whether they want to subscribe to your blog or not. Give them a place to write their email and indicate their choice with a check mark. Then, you can enter those emails in your subscription box and get more subscribers.

  39. Host a giveaway on your blog exclusively to your subscribers. This will encourage visitors to subscribe to your blog. By the time the contest is over, your new subscribers won’t want to click the unsubscribe button because they’ll enjoy reading your content.

  40. Give visitors the option to follow you on your social networks. You can do this with buttons for your social networks with links to your accounts.

  41. Give visitors the option to follow you on your social networks without leaving your blog. This will ensure more followers and the amount of time a visitor stays on your blog will increase.

  42. Become a guest blogger for a blog related to your niche. You will reach a larger audience, get more traffic, and an additional backlink for your blog.

  43. If you find something that works, repeat it. If something works the first time, chances are that it will work the second time as well.

  44. Put pictures on your blog. This will make it possible for other people to pin your blog posts. Since 80% of pins are repins, your blog may end up going viral. That only happens if your blog post has a picture as well.

  45. Write in small paragraphs. One big lump of text is difficult to read. Splitting your blog posts into paragraphs will make visitors read your blog posts for an extended period of time.

  46. Make your blog remarkable by offering or doing something that no one else does. Be the next Purple Cow!

  47. Send out your blog posts either in the morning or very late at night. Those are the two times when you will get the most traffic. Sending out blog posts in the afternoon isn’t as effective because people do not have as much time to read a blog post.

  48. Write blog posts that will still be effective years later. You will be able to tweet the same blog post today that you wrote 2 years ago and get traffic.

  49. Write a blog post about Google. This one works.

  50. Get Google Authorship. When someone searches your name, a box with your picture and latest Google Plus post will appear to the right.

  51. If you only post links to your blog posts on Google Plus, you will get more traffic from Google Authorship as well.

  52. If one of your blog posts is doing very well, share it on your social networks the next day. If a lot of people looked at that blog post the first time, a lot of people will look at that blog post a second time.

  53. Answer questions relating to what you blog about on Yahoo Answers or Wiki Answers. Yahoo Answers and Wiki Answers almost always appear on Page 1 for Google search results.

  54. Make sure you have a lot of blog posts on the front page. If you only have 5 blog posts on the front page, your visitors will have to click the “older posts” button more times than they would like.

  55. Write 3-5 blog posts every day. That way, you will have blog posts scheduled for days, and you will also be able to choose which blog posts end up getting published to your blog.

  56. Write your blog posts at a time of the day when you are the most productive. This will allow you to write more blog posts with greater quality.

  57. Make videos about some of your blog posts. Your videos will get people curious until they click the link to your blog post.

  58. Give your products to subscribers for free. Authors commonly give books away to subscribers and people who subscribe to their blog.

  59. Review products on Amazon. Millions of people visit Amazon, and one of the products you like may only have 50 reviews. People hear your honest opinion, and as you review more products, people will see you more often. As people see you more often, they will want to learn more about you. Then, they find your blog.

  60. Give yourself goals. How many blog posts do you want to write within a week? How much traffic do you want next month? Once you give yourself those goals, find ways to turn those goals into realities.

  61. Include links in your blog posts to other places on the web. This will increase the clickout rate which also has an impact on SEO.

  62. Know that blogging is a marathon with a finish line and a trophy.

  63. After you finish a video, start another one.

  64. Offer your subscribers super saver discounts.

  65. Use words that everyone knows the definitions of.

  68. Don’t make your blog dependent on search engines. Who knows when Google will decide to change their algorithms.

  69. While search engines help, you should rely on social media to drive more traffic to your blog.

  70. Using social media to increase your blog traffic will also increase the traffic you get from search engines.

  71. Market your products in ways people wouldn’t imagine. People will take about it and become curious. That curiosity will lead to a Google search where consumers find the link to your blog.

  72. Participate in forums. The Warrior Forum has one of the best Alexa ranks on the web.

  73. Use fluent English that allows people to understand the message you are trying to convey.

  74. Make sure that most of your blog posts should be short. The maximum for a majority number of words of your blog posts should be at 500 words. Only once or even twice a month should you write a blog post that passes 500 words.

  75. Tell friends about your blog and have them subscribe. Your friends are going to do the best job at spreading the word about your blog.

  76. Offer consultation opportunities for your niche. People want answers.

  88. Make some of your blog posts password protected and give those to your subscribers.

  89. Write blog posts that would go on your blog, but never publish them. You can come out with a book and title one of the chapters, “Lost Blog Posts.”

  90. Keep all of your blog posts in a document on your computer. If you want to find all of your blog posts on Twitter, you can use Command F (for an Apple computer) and type in the word Twitter. This will easily allow you to find content with certain keywords.

  91. Have your phone with you as much as you can. If you think of a really good topic to write about, use the Notepad App to write it down.

  92. Interview successful people on your niche.

  93. Get interviewed by people of your niche. Offer a chance for an interview on your blog.

  94. Create a calendar to determine which days will be the best for writing blog posts.

5 Ways To Get More Repins On Pinterest

November 16, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

There are a lot of people who are ready to repin other people’s pins. In fact, 80% of pins are repins. The more repins you get, the more followers you will get on Pinterest. If people repin pins of your blog posts, you will get more traffic as well. On Pinterest, it is possible to spread rapidly if you get enough repins. Here are 5 ways to get more repins so your content spreads faster than the competition:

1. Pin pictures that are humorous, shocking, or inspirational. Almost all of my pins on my Inspirational Quotes board have repins. Some of the pins on that board have hundreds of repins.

2. Be active on Pinterest. People need to see your pins on their timeline in order to pin them. If someone repins one of your pins, chances are that same person will look at and repin other pins on that board. When I pin something about 3D printing, that pin gets repined, but as a result, other pins on that board get repined as well.

3. Comment on other people’s pins. Few people comment on other people’s pins. However, if you comment, you will get more exposure which will lead to more followers. If you comment on pins that are similar to what you pin, people will click on your name and repin some of your pins as well.

4. Use PinWoot to get quick repins. PinWoot is a free service that will allow you to get more repins. PinWoot is the Twiends for Pinterest, and some people have reported a doubling in blog traffic just by using PinWoot to increase the number of repins.

5. Have a group board with a lot of contributors. When you pin something to that group board, some of your contributors may repin your pin on some of their other boards. Having group boards will also allow you to systematize Pinterest.

The Missing Piece Of The Puzzle: Your Product

November 15, 2013 by Marc Guberti 4 Comments

The missing piece is somewhere hidden away. The consumers are looking for that missing piece in order to complete the puzzle. They look at product after product in order to find the final piece to the puzzle. Your product needs to be the missing piece to the puzzle, and you need to tell consumers that you have the missing piece of the puzzle.

There was a time when tablets were not successful. Kindle was the best, but people just saw Kindle as a way to buy books and read magazines. Then, Steve Jobs came in with the first iPad. The iPad was a new tablet, and Jobs told the consumers that the iPad was like the missing piece of the puzzle. Now, we know the iPad very well. The iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, and iPad Mini are effective tablets.

Apple took the world by storm with its iPads because tablets were not doing well. The iPad offered a solution which just happened to be the missing piece of the puzzle.

What puzzle are your consumers trying to complete, and what is the missing piece? That missing piece needs to be one of your products.

Be The Best By Being Different

November 15, 2013 by Marc Guberti 6 Comments

Do something that none of the competitors would dare to do. Offer more services than your competitors would even think of offering or do one service so well that you’re the go-to person of your niche. By doing what everyone else is doing, you won’t be able to become the best.

Many people are doing what everyone else is doing. That’s the standard, but standard is not best. Standard is mediocre at most. The only way to become the best is to break the standard in some way that makes you look brilliant. Then, you will be able to set the standard for excellence. Some people will follow your standard while others will be in doubt.

By being different, you will stand out from the crowd. It’s like wearing a green blazer. Whether you want to or not, you will stand out with the green blazer. People will pay attention to what you do and what you have to offer.

Set the standard; don’t let the standard set you.

When Free And Viral Collide

November 14, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Free products are going to encourage sign ups and build awareness of your presence as an entrepreneur and business. Going viral will do the same thing. When free is able to combine with viral, the result is magical.

Viral content spreads through social networks, word of mouth, and through all of the other possible methods of spreading. However, once content loses its virality, people don’t pay attention as much. The blog that got a spike in traffic is going to be back where it was before in a matter of days. Maybe 20% of that increase in traffic will stay for an extended period of time, but that’s probably all of the extra traffic the blog is going to get after it went viral.

Free solves the problem. People sign up for a blog or subscribe to a channel because something is free. Free can take on a variety of forms such as videos, PDF’s, books, and more. When something is offered for free, people do everything they can to get the free product. When content goes viral, and people see the free product being offered, they grasp the opportunity. Then, they get emailed each time you come out with a new blog post. These people will remember you long enough to see you frequently. As more people see you more times, their trust for you will grow. The best friends are seen more than the acquaintances. In the end, more people will see you more times, and you will get more sales.

Viral traffic comes and goes, but when free and viral collide, the traffic comes and stays.
