How To Use The LapTop Trick To Increase Productivity

May 24, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

One of the problems with being productive on the computer is that it seems as if we have an infinite amount of time. In the span of days, weeks, months, and years, some people believe they couldn’t possibly need any extra time. This is what results in many people being unproductive when they work on their computers. An infinite amount of time eliminates the sense of urgency.

However, there is a fix to the problem. There is a way to create urgency. What if you had several days to write 10 blog posts? Chances are you would write some blog posts on some of those days and not write a single blog post on other days. In addition, those blog posts may get crammed together in the end.

Now what would happen if you only had 6 hours to write 10 blog posts? That would be 1 blog post every 36 minutes. That is still a lot of time to write a blog post, but now you are writing 10 blog posts in 1 day. How does that happen?

The answer is using the LapTop trick. We are all fooled into thinking that we have an unlimited amount of time. However, we are all mistaken. The best way to tap into the urgency is by removing the power cord from your computer. Then, work in a different room from where your power cord is, and continue to write blog posts and do other productive things until your computer dies or you get all of your tasks done. Removing the power cord removes the thought of having an infinite amount of time. Removing the power cord allows you to realize that you don’t have a lot of time left, and as your computer drops under 50% power, you will further realize that you do not have a lot of time left. As your computer gets closer to dying, your sense of urgency will increase. Soon, you will be able to complete tasks in several hours that once took you several days to complete.

The LapTop trick is a secret way to boost your productivity. We do not have an infinite amount of time, and this trick will allow anyone to realize that time is a valuable but also limited resource.

How To Track Your Time

May 15, 2014 by Marc Guberti 4 Comments

Tracking Time

Time is our most valuable resource. However, not everyone is tracking how their time gets carved out day by day. Instead of identifying how long they stay on social networks, most people make an educated guess. However, an educated guess is not good enough. Chances are you know your strengths and weaknesses in time management. However, what few people know is how powerful their strengths are and how flimsy their weaknesses are.

In order to measure your strengths and weaknesses, you need to track your time. Before you start something, write down the time that you started. When you move on to another activity, write down the time that you stopped. Then, write down the time that you started your next activity and continue the process.

Here is an example: I start writing my book at 5 pm and stop at 6 pm. Then, I look at my Twitter feed from 6 pm to 6:30 pm. Then, I write blog posts from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

By continuing this cycle, you will be able to identify how much time you are spending on certain activities. Maybe you are spending more than an hour looking at your Twitter feed. It is better to catch yourself than it is to make an educated guess. In addition, continuing this cycle and creating this kind of schedule will allow you to identify what you did on your most productive days. If you wrote blog posts from 11 pm to 12 am on 1 day, and you wrote blog posts from 6 am to 7 am, you would be able to identify the time in which you are the most productive for a certain task.

By tracking your time for a week, you will be able to find common patterns. You will be able to identify where you spend most of your time and what goals you need to spend more time on. Write everything down in a notebook so you are able to look back at your results months later. Although this process does help you find out where you are carving your time, the process of writing times and activities is a long one. My recommendation is to track your time once a week every month and compare your results. Then, you will be able to see how you should be carving your time throughout the day.

Time is truly our most valuable resource. In order to get the most out of our most valuable resource, we need to track how we are using time. The numbers may surprise you. What are your thoughts on tracking time?

5 Time Management Hacks To Boost Efficiency

May 5, 2014 by Marc Guberti 1 Comment

Time Management Tips

Time management is the most important way to get more done. While there are certain ways to get better time management such as setting the goals and giving yourself the deadline, there are certain hacks that can boost your efficiency as well. These are five of them.

  1. Wake up one hour earlier. The earlier you wake up, the more you will be able to focus at the task at hand. When you wake up, you need to start the day off productively by working. Some of the most successful people wake up before 6 am. If you can do that, then that would be great. If you can eventually wake up at 7 am instead of 8 am, then that’s great too.
  2. Be happier. Happiness is the key to success. In fact, happiness is the truth. By being happy, you will have a deeper appreciation for what you are accomplishing. You need to be happy with what you are doing in order to see growth. If you are sad at work and do not look forward to the work you have to do, you need to give yourself new work to do that makes you happy.
  3. Listen to motivational music. There is motivational music that simply makes us want to be productive. I listen to the classic Rocky music before running on the treadmill. In fact, I listen to the Rocky music several times while I run on the treadmill. The music has worked wonders in my ability to run longer distances on the treadmill without feeling too fatigued…or too bored.
  4. Turn essential tasks into habits. In order to become really good at your work, you need to turn the essential tasks into habits. When I had difficulty writing and thinking of my own sentences, I was not a professional writer. Now that I am writing blog posts and books, I have had more practice. I turned an essential task into a habit, and now it is easy for me to write 4,000 words every day during the school year. I anticipate writing over 10,000 words one day in the summer.
  5. Take 30 minute naps. Naps are important to refresh the mind. Studies have shown that the people who sleep for 6.5-7.5 hours every day are the ones who live the longest. No matter how many hours of sleep you get, there will be some moments in the middle of the day when you feel tired. You may feel exhausted because you did a lot of work or just because you are a bit tired. Taking 30 minute naps is a great way to relax and take a break. After the nap, you will be wide awake and ready to go back to your big project.

Those are the five ways to hack time management so you are able to be more efficient with the time what you have. What are your thoughts on the list, and do you have any additional tips? Please share your thoughts and/or tips below.

5 Ways To Get Your Goals Accomplished Faster

May 3, 2014 by Marc Guberti 6 Comments

Goals

The big reason many goals remain unaccomplished is because people do not know how to accomplish them fast enough. Most people go into their goals with no set plan. With this “blindfold mentality,” people do not know how to accomplish their goals. The only reason people remember and still try to accomplish these goals is because they were written on a piece of paper somewhere or just happen to be recalled every once in a while. However, what if there was a way to get your goals accomplished faster? In fact, there’s five ways.

  1. Wake up earlier. Waking up early removes all of the distractions that take place later in the day. The earlier you wake up, less things get in the way of you accomplishing your goals. Waking up early also has several health benefits.
  2. Give yourself the staircase. You cannot get from one floor (where you are now) to the next floor (where the goal is accomplished) without creating the staircase to get you there. If you want to write 7 blog posts every week, you would do 1 blog post every day and add steps to your staircase until you accomplish the goal.
  3. Write your goals on a score card. I wrote a blog post about how my first score card dramatically increased my productivity. Since then, I have been using score cards every week to track my productivity and my ability to accomplish goals within a certain amount of time.
  4. Improve your time management skills. Watching TV is easier than writing. Watching TV does not involve any action on your part, but writing requires thinking and the ability to turn thoughts into sentences. However, writing will help your business more than watching TV will. Many people do not know how to effectively manage their time which is why many hours get gobbled up for unnecessary reasons. These are some tips that will help out with improving your time management.
  5. Never lower the bar. Lowering the bar once results in a temptation to lower the bar even further. Cutting back from 4,000 words every day to 2,000 words every day and remaining that way for several weeks could eventually result in the ability to surpass 1,000 words every day. Lowering the bar lowers hopes, expectations, and dreams.

Those are the five ways to get more done faster. What are your thoughts on the list? Do you have any additional tips that you would like to add? Please share your thoughts and tips below.

How To Make Better Use Of The Time You Have

March 14, 2014 by Marc Guberti 4 Comments

Time management is something that we all seek. We understand that time is our most valuable resource, but allocating that time properly has become more of a challenge. When it comes to utilizing time, it is important to identify how we are already utilizing the time that we have. You may be spending 30 minutes on Twitter every day. How you spend those 30 minutes depends on how productive you are. Spending 30 minutes on Twitter looking at the trending topics is not as productive as 30 minutes on Twitter connecting with your followers and following targeted users.

Some people are spending the same amount of time you are, but by making some small changes, these people are able to get more done. For a blogger, writing 5 blog posts in 30 minutes is more productive than doing typing speed tests for 30 minutes. There are too many people who complain about all of the goals that are not getting done. The simple fix may be to utilize the time you have dedicated to your goals differently.

There are many solutions to getting better time management such as using score cards and following these tips. However, getting better time management all comes down to how you are utilizing the time you already have. 30 minutes of watching is not as productive as 30 minutes of doing. Making better time with what you have starts by focusing on the time you are already using.

The Results For My First Score Card

February 21, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Recently, I wrote a score card in order to control my progress. I was amazed with my productivity over the period of 1 week. The only thing that got scratched from the final list was scheduling 10 days of Google Plus posts because accessing Do Share got confusing to the point where I did not want it to hurt my other goals. I will provide the goal that needed to be reached with parenthesis indicating what I was able to do.

  1. Write 20 blog posts (I wrote all 20 blog posts).
  2. Schedule 10 days of tweets (I scheduled all 10 days of tweets).
  3. Finish 12 KeyNotes for future videos (I finished all 12 KeyNotes).
  4. Finish 8 videos (I was only able to finish 4 of the 8).
  5. Write down ideas for 20 Vines (I wrote down ideas for 20 Vines).
  6. Post 5 Vines (I only posted 2 of the 5).

Although I did not finish 8 videos or post 5 Vines, I was able to do all of the other things effectively. I calculated that I would get a score of 82% (B for the week). You can see the algorithm I use to score my score cards here.

This was a valuable lesson that allowed me to see how much I could really do within a week. This week taught me to take my score cards more seriously because they result in me getting a lot of work done in a shorter amount of time.
