What Television Has Done To Us

July 16, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Put the remote down. It’s not important. Television has given us a false sense of power. You can flip to the channel you like, and if you don’t see anything, you can always flip to the next channel. If you like what you’re watching, you keep watching it.

That’s a lot of watching. At a basketball game, the people who are watching are the spectators. They watch the athletes take shots, get rebounds, block a shot, pass to each other, and basicaly, be successful at what they want to do. The athletes aren’t watching the game; they’re in the game.

We keep on watching other people who are successful. The people who are a part of the TV show get paid. The choices we make while watching television have no impact on who we become.

Have I fully given up television? Not yet, but I only watch 2 shows. I don’t bother surfing or trying to find something else that is entertaining. Television has given us a false sense of power. You have the power to change the channel, but when you put the remote down, how much have you accomplished?

I’m not asking anyone to give it up for good. I do believe that there are too many people watching their favorite shows too long. That’s procrastination up and productivity down.

Give up 30 minutes a day. Then give up an hour every day. What you will be able to accomplish with that extra time will be incredible.

Ask yourself if it will all be worth it when you complete your goal. Do you see yourself becoming successful in the future by completing your goals, or do you see your goals as a way to just “get by.”

On A Scale Of 1 To 5

July 12, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

What does that have to do with your business? It’s either a 1 or a 5. There is no 2, 3, or 4. It’s either you’re committed to your business or you’re not.

No one has the power to make you work on your business except yourself. You are the deciding factor for your business. It can either thrive or crumble. It’s up to you.

When you are doing something, ask yourself if what you are doing is really helping your business grow. By asking these questions, you will be able to eliminate the things that do not help your business grow.

Put it on a scale of 1 to 5. The secret is that it’s either a 1 or a 5; a yes or no answer.

Rinse And Repeat

July 11, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

There will be some things that work and grow your business. There will be other things that won’t help your business grow. What you have to do is look at what is working right now.

If you repeat what is working, your business will continue to grow. If you like where your business is heading, keep on doing the things that are allowing your business to go so far. Keep on repeating what works because you will be able to have a thriving business.

While you repeat what is working, you can also experiment with your business. You will eventually find something else that works for your business just as well. Then you can alternate between various methods that work and allow your business to grow.

If it works, stay with it, because it will keep on working.

Why I Believe In The 10,000 Hour Rule

July 8, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

The 10,000 hour rule is a concept that after the 10,000th hour, you will see yourself with a thriving business. Although the 10,000 hour rule is controversial, I believe it is real. The idea of the 10,000 hour rule is that it takes a long time to achieve success. It takes some entrepreneur over 10 years to create multimillion dollar businesses. Others never get there.

The 10,000 hour rule is not to discourage anyone. Instead, it is a sign of opportunity. The 10,000 hour rule shows that anyone can be create a thriving business. However, if you want to create a thriving business, you must be successful for most of those 10,000 hours.

Whether you believe in the 10,000 hour rule or not, success does not come overnight.

Sleeping Is Overrated (Sometimes)

July 6, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Everyone needs sleep, but the question is how much sleep we really need. There are a lot of people who recommend sleeping 10 hours every night. Children should get as much sleep as they should get, but what about teenagers and adults?

I decided to change my schedule completely. It is summer, and I have more time to work on my business (and do other things as well). On some days, I get less than 8 hours of sleep. On rare occasions, I get 8 and a half hours of sleep. For me, 9 hours is too much.

Those extra hours can add up. If you sleep an extra hour for a month, you are sleeping for more than an extra day. When school comes back, I will go back to the normal sleeping habits. Staying up until midnight on the day before a test won’t work although I have no problem doing it now.

If you have an important meeting the next day or an important assignment that is due the following day, get the bed rest. If you see any decline in performance, get the bed rest. Other than that, you should be as productive as possible.

Goofing off on the web does not count towards being productive. Surfing the web during late hours will lead to a tougher tomorrow.
