Well-Rounded Gave Its Crown To Specialization A Long Time Ago

March 14, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

There are two entrepreneurs. One entrepreneur is well-rounded. The other entrepreneur specializes in one thing. Which of these two entrepreneurs is more likely to become successful?

The second entrepreneur is more likely to become successful. There are more specialized people that are easier to connect with than ever before. One person offers general advice about social media. There is also someone who specializes in Twitter marketing while there is another person who specializes in getting more engagement from Facebook fans.

The more you specialize, the smaller you make your target audience. Making a target audience may sound like something bad, but the smaller the better. A small target audience does not encounter as many distractions that take them away from your business as a large audience. A small audience of people primarily interested in Twitter will pay more attention to you than an audience interested in social media. An audience interested in social media may decide to look at the person offering consultations about Facebook. On the other hand, the people interested in Twitter will only focus on consultations about Twitter. If you offer consultations about Twitter, your targeted followers will have a stronger reason to use your services if they are only interested in Twitter than if they are interested in social media.

Well-rounded is no longer an option. There are countless people offering specialized services. Well-rounded is ordinary. Specialization is extraordinary.

What To Do When The Grass Is Greener On The Other Side

March 13, 2014 by Marc Guberti 1 Comment

The phrase of grass being greener on the other side is a popular one. In several cases, the grass is not as green on the other side as it appears to be. However, there are some cases when the grass is much greener on the other side. Whether income on the other side is better or there is more happiness on the other side, there will be moments when the grass is greener on the other side.

The most common choice is to simply stare at the greener grass with the “I wish that was me” attitude. Looking at the greener grass on the other side does not make your situation any better. Your grass will not get any greener than it is now. In fact, the grass on your side may get worse.

The less common choice is to do what you can to make your grass greener than the other side. You do not necessarily have to convert to the other side to have greener grass. Many times, by going to the other side, you will be able to understand what you lost by going to that side. As a result, the grass on the side you left suddenly looks greener. The best thing you can do is work on making your grass greener. There is no reason to accept the rules that everyone else follows.

Don’t go for the greener grass. Make the grass you already have greener.

There Are No Limits To Success

March 13, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

The easier road is to make up your own limits. It is easier to say that your boss won’t give you a raise than it is to work more often to eventually get the raise. It is easier to say that you are not qualified to write a blog post every day. The more challenging task is to write the blog post every day and get better results.

It is easier to give ourselves limits and define our boundaries. The problem with setting limitations is that once we start, we get good at it. A 10,000 follower increase becomes the limitation for the year because that’s how much effort will be put into gaining more followers. After a few bad days, the new limitation becomes a 5,000 follower increase for the year. If that goal gets reached, it was a good year for your social network…but it could have been better.

Instead of giving myself limitations, I give myself minimums. Ever since my following count soared, I gave myself a goal to gain over 200,000 followers every year. Although that goal sounds crazy, the rate in which I have been gaining followers will result in 200,000 followers every year (as long as the rate is consistent). I could gain more than 200,000 followers, but that is my minimum.

Limits prevent growth. Setting minimums and striving to exceed those minimums encourages growth.

Intangibles Define Us, Not Statistics

March 11, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Statistics are there, but they can easily get changed. A blogger who is getting 0 visitors a day can end up getting over 100,000 daily visitors at some point in his career. The person who consistently gains 20 followers every day can suddenly end up gaining 300 followers every day.

The Denver Broncos were favored by a landslide to win the Super Bowl against the Seahawks. That did not happen, and the Broncos lost by a long shot. We commonly think that statistics define the best. However, statistics change. We need to focus more on the intangibles to see who the leaders are.

The intangibles are the persistence, consistency, the desire to be successful, and other traits of well-known leaders. While the statistics say hopeless, the intangibles say success story. When the Patriots chose Tom Brady in the 6th round of the draft, he was a back-up quarterback for his college and ran at pedestrian speeds. No one had any idea what the Patriots saw in Brady. Tom Brady ended up becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the sport. The New England Patriots were not looking at the statistics. They were looking at the intangibles.

Statistics are not enough. Some of the people with good statistics don’t want to put in the long hours to get better. The people who have good intangibles are the ones who catch up to the statistic leaders. The intangibles allow some bloggers to go from 0 visitors to 100,000 daily visitors.

Statistics are important, but the intangibles are more important.

The Difference Between Being The Best And Showing Up

March 10, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

Showing up is easy. You don’t have to try. You just have to be in the room.

Being the best means putting in a lot of work and effort to achieve a goal. Being the best means that you want to get better even if you are already good at something.

Getting better and wanting to get better are two different things.

Are you showing up or are you being the best?

The One Thing About The Spotlight That People Mix Up

March 5, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

It seems as if more people than ever want their own product. Whether that product is a book or training course, more people want their own. A big reason this happened is because creating these products suddenly became a lot easier. You no longer need to pursue a publisher to write a book or get a degree so you can teach in school.

There are countless examples of people who are remarkable because of their products. With this success has also come a lot of confusion of how that success happened in the first place. Many people think that once they create the product, the spotlight is on them. People will come and buy the product.

The problem is creating the product does not give you a spotlight. A product is a product, and there are millions of them to choose from. You don’t get to go under the spotlight just by creating a product. Many people have created products.

You get under the spotlight when you get people to care about your product. There are millions of products out there, and no one knows why your product is so special. The only way for people to know about your special product is by telling them about your product. The product does not guarantee going under the spotlight. The market is noisy, and most people don’t get noticed.

The spotlight comes after people realize why your product is important and necessary. If you created products just to become famous, it’s not going to work. If you create products because you enjoy the process, enjoy seeing better results, and firmly stand behind your products, it can work. All you would have to do at that point is get people to know about your products.

Once enough people know about your product, and the ripple effect allows more people to know about your product, the spotlight will be shining down upon you.
