Create Something Worth Sharing

October 6, 2013 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

People are focusing on getting their message out there. People want others to tell people about their products. Word of mouth is powerful, and the ability to share content on social media is just as powerful. However, word of mouth and social media don’t result in a product that gets shared a lot.

Instead of finding more ways for people to share your product, create a product that is worth sharing. The best products aren’t necessarily the ones that get all of the advertising slots on television or the ones where the seller has over 100,000 followers on multiple social networks.

The best products are the ones that are worth sharing. People won’t share a sub par product that they see in an advertisement. You’ve told one of your friends about a product. That was a product worth sharing because you told someone else about that product. The product worth sharing is the one that goes from the unknown to the next bestseller.

Don’t create the hype. Create something of value.

Putting Everything In Two Or More Baskets

October 2, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

I haven’t been getting too many sales on Kindle lately. Christmas isn’t here just yet which means we’ll all have to wait a little longer before those Christmas shoppers come around. I wasn’t seeing sales for the books on Kindle.

I completely forgot that I put my books on iTunes. I decided to check for the number of sales my books made. Sure enough, there were multiple sales. I was overjoyed.

If you are selling a book, don’t limit yourself to one place. Sell your book, or any product for that matter, at as many places as you can. Don’t rely on one method that will allow you to make revenue. Instead, use a combination of tactics that will allow you to thrive in the process.

If The Market Doesn’t Respond

September 28, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

It won’t respond. Yelling louder isn’t the answer. Constantly experimenting with different ideas will force the market to pay attention. The market won’t respond if you start advertising an old product in a new world (dramatic changes can now take places months at a time). Instead of working what you have and getting the same result, try a different approach. Create another product, or use something differently.

If the market isn’t responding, you’re doing something wrong. Yelling louder in the middle of a desert attracts the same amount of people as a whisper–none. In order to get the market to respond, you need to change. When you change, the market will respond, and soon enough, there will be people who couldn’t imagine what would happen if you weren’t around.

The Problem With Keeping A Secret

September 25, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Nobody knows about it. The successful people who have great ideas for products aren’t promoting their products when they’re up for sale. Those people are promoting their products months or even years before the product even comes out.

This actually allows people to know about the product. When some people know about the product, they tell their friends, and more people get the message. Soon, you already have a giant fan base waiting to buy your product, and you haven’t even put it up for sale yet.

Apple gets so many sales for all of their new devices. One of the reasons they get all of those sales is because we know about the devices well in advance. Months before the actual device comes out, everyone knows what the device is and what it does. The iPhone 5S was trending on Twitter well before it was actually released.

Apple doesn’t make the release dates of their devices a secret. Everyone knows when the next big thing from Apple is coming out. If the next iPhone came out at 8 p.m, everyone would be on their computer at 7:59 p.m ready to click the “Buy Now” button somewhere on Apple’s website.

When You Get Their Attention

September 23, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Everyone is so focused on selling their product and marketing it with a budget or social media. Spending money isn’t the best way to market because who’s to say you find someone interested in what you have to offer. Using social media will help you get more people looking at your product.

However, are you getting the consumer’s attention, or are they likely to get distracted. Using advertising on a blog such as Google Adsense distracts the visitor and makes them click away. That click could have been a click on one of your products or another blog post instead.

When you get someone’s attention, it is important to make sure you can keep that person interested. The less distractions, the more interested someone will be in what you have to offer.

When you get their attention, keep it. If you want someone’s attention, you have to remove the distractions.

Interests Change

September 20, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

And along with those changes of interests, marketing is changed as well. 5 years later, marketing will be different. 5 years ago, marketing was different. Some changes are dramatic while others are minor. Companies and big name industries are spending millions of dollars on marketing campaigns that don’t work the way they used to.

Other than Super Bowl commercials, TV advertising isn’t as effective as it used to be. Getting your own following on social networks, products, and a blog is the way to market nowadays (although that can change too).

Marketing etiquette is inconsistent because interests change. Commercials might have been really cool to look at when someone watched TV for the first time. In the 1950’s, commercials must have been really cool since the television wasn’t that old. Now mobile advertising is the way to go although I doubt mobile advertising will be the way to go forever.

Interests change, and when those interests change, the rules of marketing change. By paying attention to those changes, you will be able to see the rules of marketing change before everyone else.
