Why I Believe In The 10,000 Hour Rule

July 8, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

The 10,000 hour rule is a concept that after the 10,000th hour, you will see yourself with a thriving business. Although the 10,000 hour rule is controversial, I believe it is real. The idea of the 10,000 hour rule is that it takes a long time to achieve success. It takes some entrepreneur over 10 years to create multimillion dollar businesses. Others never get there.

The 10,000 hour rule is not to discourage anyone. Instead, it is a sign of opportunity. The 10,000 hour rule shows that anyone can be create a thriving business. However, if you want to create a thriving business, you must be successful for most of those 10,000 hours.

Whether you believe in the 10,000 hour rule or not, success does not come overnight.

My Attitude Towards Getting Goals Done

July 8, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

I use a hashtag in a lot of my tweets. I also have one that I wrote down in my notebook on the very last page. When I have a difficult goal to accomplish, I go to the last page of my notebook and read

#BecauseICan

You can say what you want about the hashtag being there, but when I have a goal, that’s my motto. The next time you have a goal to complete, put that on a sticky note next to you when you work. When you think you can’t do something, look at that sticky note and read what it says.

You Probably Don’t Know Who Alain Bernard Is

July 7, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

A small fraction of a second separated Bernard’s relay team from beating Michael Phelps’ relay team. The gold and silver medals could have been distributed either way. The length of each anchor legs’ fingernails was the difference between a victory and a loss.

Everyone looks at the winner, not the guy who gets second place. Be that winner and make sure people know who you are.

If You Want To Speak To A Representative, Press 1

July 7, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

When we make a phone call, we want to be able to directly contact that person. We have questions, and we want answers. We may just want to talk with a friend. Either way, you’re on the phone to hear a person talk to you, not an automated response.

At first, we are a little irritated. The automated voice gives you the options, and then you press a number. You expect to no longer hear the automated voice. Then the automated voice says a classic, “Please hold.”

That same music plays. It continues to play on. Then the song is over. Then the song starts over. Then another song plays. It’s just a drag. Finally the automated voice comes back telling you that you are on a 30 minute waiting list. The same song plays yet again.

We want to ask a question and get an answer, not hear a song that we could probably listen to on the radio. What’s customer service for? Automated voices don’t make the cut. When there are a lot of callers, there is most likely going to be a lot of money coming in too.

Why not hire more people to take more calls? That music gets old…really fast.

Sleeping Is Overrated (Sometimes)

July 6, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Everyone needs sleep, but the question is how much sleep we really need. There are a lot of people who recommend sleeping 10 hours every night. Children should get as much sleep as they should get, but what about teenagers and adults?

I decided to change my schedule completely. It is summer, and I have more time to work on my business (and do other things as well). On some days, I get less than 8 hours of sleep. On rare occasions, I get 8 and a half hours of sleep. For me, 9 hours is too much.

Those extra hours can add up. If you sleep an extra hour for a month, you are sleeping for more than an extra day. When school comes back, I will go back to the normal sleeping habits. Staying up until midnight on the day before a test won’t work although I have no problem doing it now.

If you have an important meeting the next day or an important assignment that is due the following day, get the bed rest. If you see any decline in performance, get the bed rest. Other than that, you should be as productive as possible.

Goofing off on the web does not count towards being productive. Surfing the web during late hours will lead to a tougher tomorrow.

Give Yourself Deadlines

July 6, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

We all do better with a deadline, but how about giving yourself multiple deadlines at the same time? Giving yourself a lot of deadlines will make you do more of your work faster. In order to publish 1 book every month, I am working on a majority of the books over the summer so I won’t have to work on as many of them when school starts.

I created a list of books that I needed to get done over the summer. Then I created a deadline for when each book should be done. Book A has to be done this week and Book B has to be done within 2 weeks. I’ll have those books done before school starts, and I’ll have to work on some of my books throughout the year.

I always do better when I give myself a deadline. Deadlines force me to get more of my work done faster. There is no more sitting on the couch and watching TV.

Give yourself deadlines to do your work. This is your time!
