When Plan A Fails

August 20, 2013 by Marc Guberti 1 Comment

Repetition is the act of doing the same thing multiple times. However, there are some lessons we can learn from this word.

If you plant a seed and don’t water it, the seed will shrivel up and die. If you plant another seed, and you don’t water it, don’t expect different results. That seed will shrivel up and die as well.

When you see something isn’t working, you need to make a change. Those seeds shriveled up and died because they weren’t getting enough water. Giving them the same amount of water doesn’t solve the problem. You need to make a change. Plan A isn’t working at all.

Start by giving the seed more water. If the seed still shrivels up and dies, you know you didn’t give the seed enough water. However, if the seed dies because you poured in too much water, you know a change needs to be made.

When Plan B doesn’t work, that doesn’t give you the option to go back to Plan A. If Plan A didn’t work before, it won’t work again. What you need to do is go for Plan C. Give the seed water frequently. Give the seed some water in the morning, some water in the afternoon, and some in the evening.

If Plan C doesn’t work, you don’t go back to Plan A or Plan B. You go to Plan D, Plan E, Plan F, Plan G, and any other plan you get to. If you end up getting to Plan Z, go to Plan AB. If something didn’t work for you the first time, chances are it won’t work the second time. If the car’s engine doesn’t start, and you don’t do anything to your car’s engine, it won’t start if you try again. You have to get that engine fixed.

Some people have many plans that don’t work. It took Thomas Edison over 10,000 experiments to finalize the first working lightbulb. Imagine all of the Plan A’s and Plan B’s Edison had. One of the plans worked because he knew what didn’t work. Plan A didn’t work so he moved on to Plan B. Plan B didn’t work so he moved on to Plan C.

We can’t continue investing money and time into something that doesn’t work. TV ads are not as effective as they used to be (I’ve been reading Purple Cow). When Plan A fails, it’s necessary to move on to the next plan. If you don’t want to give up on your business, make a change to your business. Plan B doesn’t always mean giving up everything you have worked on. Plan B means trying to find a way to make something work. As long as it works, you don’t have to come up with any plans. When Plan B doesn’t work anymore, it’s time to move on to Plan C.

As long as you don’t give up, you will find a successful plan. The guy who came up with the movie Rocky was so poor that he had to sell his dog so he could buy himself food (he ended up getting his dog back. It’s an incredible story although I don’t have enough time to go in detail about it). He had tons of Plan A’s and Plan B’s, but now we know the story of Rocky. We all know the Rocky music when we hear it.

The Mind Is Greatest

August 13, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

We’ve all heard of the expression that the pen is mightier than the sword. Some of us may recall the commercial where the man signs a piece of paper with a pen, takes out a weapon, and uses it against the ninja with the sword. The ninja with the sword loses.

The pen is a powerful tool. Many people stop at the pen is mightier than the sword. What many people overlook is that the mind is mightier than the pen. You need a good mind to use the pen to its fullest potential. Your mind control who you become.

You decide who you become by thinking of who you become. If you think of yourself becoming successful, you will become successful. If you think of yourself struggling, you will see yourself start to struggle.

Your mind makes all of your decisions. Your mind has made you into what you are. Your mind can give you a fresh start or a disastrous ending. You decide how to use your mind, but remember that the mind is greater than the pen.

How To Look At Your Past, Present, And Future

August 10, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Ignore most of your past. Only focus on the lessons you learned along the way and what worked. Then, when you rinse and repeat, you will get the same result.

You cannot ignore the present because as you are reading this sentence, you are in the present. Nothing will change that. You have to do what you can now to have a better future.

Your future is shaped by the present. You can’t skip to the future where you’re a multimillionaire or even a multi-billionaire. Think about your future as you decide what you do in the present.

Break The Rules

August 6, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

There are some rules that are necessary to keep, but there are also rules that must be broken.

One common rule was to work for 8 hours, sleep for 8 hours, and play for the other 8 hours. That sounds like the winning combination since all three activities are done within an even amount of time. At least, we think it’s the winning combination.

When people think of the work that involves the 9 to 5 grind and having a job, that’s work, not play (unless you like your job). However, entrepreneurs have a more flexible schedule. A 9 to 5 routine doesn’t exist.

Entrepreneurs get to break this rule. The 9 to 5 is an 8 hour workday. This rule is hundreds of years old dating back to the late 1700’s back when people normally worked over 10 hours every day. This rule was supposed to reduce the amount of time people could work so they could spend more time with their families.

Is the same rule applied to this day? For most people, that would be yes. Here’s a better question. Does it still work? In this day, entrepreneurs can get easily get work and play mixed up.

Writing is not a chore or work. It is a hobby. Tweeting is not a chore or work. That’s a hobby too. What about the writers who love to write or the people who love to record videos. Is that work or play? Is that work or fun activities?

I don’t count how much time I spend on the computer typing. However, I’m not going to do other things for 8 hours. Today’s version of play has turned into unproductive media. There are people who still bounce the basketball around and run as long as they can, but a majority of time is spent consuming unproductive media.

Work doesn’t have to boring. Work can be fun. Entrepreneurs have the power to choose what they want their business to be about before they start. I enjoy writing books, blog posts, tweets, and pins. I don’t spend 8 hours working on my business. I usually spend more. How much time I spend on my business is something that I don’t want to do the math for. I don’t want to set a daily standard for how many hours I spend working because then the focus shifts to hours, not having fun.

8 hours of rest, 8 hours of work, and 8 hours of fun. I follow the 8 hours of rest, but I don’t follow the other two. I work on my business for well over 8 hours (that’s an educated guess), and when I work on my business, I have fun.

When I’m not working on my business or sleeping, I’m either running, hanging out with a friend, reading a book, or writing goals for my business in my book. When I run, I think about my business. The only way I’m not even thinking about my business or doing any work for my business is when I hang out with a friend.

Here’s how I manage my time. 8 hours of rest and 16 hours of fun. I do have a business and do a lot to enhance that business, but when I do anything for my business, it isn’t work, it’s fun.

There’s other rules that are worth breaking. When we think of rules, we may think of the typical, “You can’t drive until you’re 18 years old,” or something similar. However, there are some rules that are very outdated.

According to the outdated Grammar rule, you can never start a sentence with ‘there are’ or ‘there is.’ There are many people breaking this outdated rule.

Why People Don’t Take The Leap

August 4, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

We all want to see how ideas soar. We all want to implement our ideas and make our business the best one around. We all want to be successful. We all want to see our own products on other people’s shelves. We all want to accomplish our goals.

We all want all of those things. The list goes on and on. However, most people don’t get those things. We all want those things, but only a few people get them. The reason we all want those things is because they are hard to achieve. Everyone wants to make it in the top colleges because not everyone gets to make it in college. I see more business people saying they graduated from Stanford, Harvard, Yale, and all of the other Ivy League schools.

Most people don’t get those things because of fear. There are many people who fear failure, and that’s why there are so many inspirational quotes about conquering the fear of failure. I tweet inspirational quotes 4 times every day, and when I look around for good inspirational quotes, a lot of the inspirational quotes I read are about conquering fear.

These people fear their potential. That may be the last thing people fear about, but it is true. People do fear their potential. The reason people fear their potential is because we like the constants; the things that remain the same. In order to make your business grow and become a very successful entrepreneur, you have to be willing to take the leap.

When frogs leap from lily pad to lily pad, there’s a risk that the frog misses the lily pad and falls into the water. However, if the frog stays on the same lily pad, it won’t be able to survive. The frog will have to look for insects to eat and water to drink (the water will be easier for the frog to find).

If you’re business isn’t doing as well as you hoped, or you know there is more potential, it’s time for you to leap to the other lily pad. Even if you fall into the water, you’ll be able to swim out and go for the same lily pad again. With persistence, you will eventually take the leap and land on that lily pad.

Allow Your Mind To Wander

July 30, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

One of the factors for good business that may never change is brainstorming. It’s always important to hear other people’s suggestions and carry out some of them. When we brainstorm, our minds are at work.

Once you are done brainstorming, allow your mind to wander. After a good brainstorming sessions, you will be more likely to come up with a lot of good ideas for your business.

When you think of good ideas, write them down quickly so you won’t forget them. Then continue to allow your mind to wander. You will list pages worth of ideas for your business to improve. Continue allowing your mind to wander until you have a big list.

Then, choose some of the best options. For a sports team, many people try out, but only a few of those people can be chosen. Most of the people who try out will have a lot of potential, but it is the best ideas that will survive.

By allowing your mind to wander, you will be able to find the best ideas faster. There will be some trial and error with your business, but by allowing your mind to wander, you are very likely to find the ideas that do work.

When you take a break, try allowing your mind to wander. You’ll think of more quality ideas that will improve your business.
