Change The Motions

October 18, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Showing up, doing as you are assigned, and then being done for the day is going through the motions. Doing what you have been doing for your business for many months is going through the motions. A majority of people go through the motions because they think it’s safe.

Going through the motions can actually be dangerous. Many of your competitors go through the motions too. The problem is that when a customer is looking to find differences between you and the competitor, it won’t work. The customer will just look at the remarkable competitor and go with their products and services.

Going through the motions prevents remarkable things from happening. Going to the next level doesn’t happen by doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results. That’s insanity, and it doesn’t work.

The motions are a trap. The only way to avoid the trap is to be different and remarkable. Give customers a reason to choose you over the competitor. Better yet, give your customer numerous reasons to choose you over the competition.

The problem is that when your motions change, your competition’s motions may change as well. If you lower prices, bigger companies will lower their prices too and take away your customers. This is why we must constantly change our motions. The more we change our motions, the less the competition will be able to keep up. The competition will be like a beat up car trying to go faster than a race car. It won’t happen, but you only get as fast as the race car by changing the motions.

It’s not about going through the motions. It’s about changing the motions as many times as you can.

Tipping Point And Being An Extraordinaire

October 15, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Success is attainable for everyone. When someone reaches their tipping point, that person decides that now is the time to take the leap.

Not all of us get to reach the tipping point. Some of us reach the tipping point more than once. The tipping point shouldn’t be viewed as a make or break situation. The tipping point is a way to go from normalcy to extraordinaire. You may have to reach your tipping point multiple times in order to become an extraordinaire.

Becoming an extraordinaire is easier said than done. There are two main ways to become an extraordinaire.

The first way to become an extraordinaire is by excelling in what you do differently from the competition. Being different from the competition can go from having a specialized service to a purple door at your nearby brick and mortar store.

The second way to become an extraordinaire can land you a multibillion dollar enterprise. This one is a lot more difficult to excel at since it requires a lot of thinking outside of the box. If you can find a problem in society and improve the situation of that problem or put an end to that problem, you’ve become an extraordinaire. Social media dramatically enhanced the way we communicate to each other. Social media allows us to stay up to date with celebrities, experts, friends, and others as well. You don’t have to create a social network to be a billionaire. You just need to find a way to solve a big problem in society. When that problem gets solved, people will be flocking over to the new product or services that allows them to solve that problem.

Being an extraordinaire is no easy task, but it all begins when you reach your tipping point and take the leap.

The Process

September 28, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Isn’t always right. It’s entirely possible that you may end up creating your own process.

If everyone is using the same method, that doesn’t necessarily make that the right method for you.

Why Are You Remarkable?

September 17, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

You have to be remarkable in order to be successful. Safe is dangerous and risk leads to success. There must be a reason why people will want to talk about your business.

People talk about athletes because they are either extremely good or bad. People talk about Apple because of all of their excellent products.

What makes you remarkable? What part of your business are people probably going to tell their friends about? Make yourself remarkable. The more remarkable you are, the better you will become.

Perro Caliente Here

September 6, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Hot dogs are popular, and baseball games are one of the ideal places for people to buy hot dogs. Fans get to eat and watch a game at the same time (although there are healthier hot dogs available).

However, most of the people who sell the hot dogs don’t do a good job at it. Those people say, “Hot dogs, hot dogs. Get your hot dogs here,” or something like that. That’s not remarkable. It’s bland, common, and boring. It doesn’t entice anyone to buy a hot dog.

But what if the hot dogs would soon be dog gone? What if someone actually said that? I have attended many Mets games. The baseball game is something that I watch, but the guy who sells hot dogs where we sit is remarkable.

He sells hot dogs, but he doesn’t say “hot dogs” once. How could a person selling hot dogs get sales without saying the word “hot dogs?”

I recently saw this person make two sales in five minutes. How did that work? Sure, the fans were hungry, but they could have just bought a hot dog from someone else.

Instead of saying, “Get your hot dogs here,” this person said something totally different. I never heard anyone say it before, and you probably haven’t heard anyone say it either. He always said, “Perro caliente here.” Then he would say, “Perro, perro,” and then he would actually bark like a dog. That woof, woof, woof that you only hear from dogs was used by that person to sell more hot dogs.

Before he leaves, he warns people that when he returns, the perro calientes might be dog gone.

Don’t be like everyone else. Find a way to be different and remarkable. That’s how you end up getting two sales in five minutes.

Not Everyone Gets It

August 31, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

When you approach people with a new idea, some will be amazed. Others won’t get it. The Wright brothers are credited for creating the first functional airplane, but when people heard of their idea, they weren’t ready to believe.

The French called the Wright brothers bluffers while the European press was turned into a anti-Wright brothers stance. To add on, Ernest Archdeacon, founder of Aero Club de France, was publicly scornful of the Wright brother’s efforts to actually take flight in the airplane.

The Wright brothers could have given up right there. The New York Herald basically said that the Wright brothers either took flight or completely lied. With the European press, the French, and Ernest Archdeacon objecting the idea with plenty of other critics as well, why didn’t the Wright brothers give up? The answer is an easy one to give. They got it.

The European press, the French, Ernest Archdeacon, and all of the other critics didn’t get it. They only actually got it when the Wright brothers took flight in their first airplane in France. Archdeacon publicly admitted later that he had done the Wright brothers injustice.

Now, airplanes are common. I’ve boarded an airplane multiple times, and I’m sure you have boarded an airplane yourself or at least know someone who already has. Now that the airplane has been around for a long time, we all get it. We all know that flight is actually possible because we have the proof. We look up in the sky, and sometimes we see an airplane.

The European press, the French, Ernest Archdeacon, and all of the other critics didn’t have the proof they needed and thus didn’t get it. More people want proof and fewer people are faithful that something will ‘just work.’ If you went back to the beginning of the 20th century and told someone about all of the airplanes that fly in the air today, people would look at you as if you lost your mind.

The whole point isn’t about airplanes, or the European press, or all of those other critics. The point is that right now, if you come up with a new idea, you will have some of those critics. The airplane started out as an idea that people criticized. People probably criticized Facebook and Twitter before they became the powerful social networks they are today (some people still criticize those social networks).

When you think of a new idea, few people will actually get it right away. Most people won’t get it no matter how good the idea is. When people don’t get your idea, that is not the time to give up. That is the time to prove everyone wrong.
