5 Tactics That Almost Guarantee Success

January 7, 2017 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Guaranteed success is a strong prediction; every time people come across the words “guarantee” and “success” together, there’s bound to be some skepticism.

But these five tactics are powerful. The super secret kind of powerful, and I’m about to expose them all. While you may have already heard of some of these tactics, others will be new.

But none of them matter if you don’t take action.

You’d think that something like taking action would be the first tactic. However, we are constantly taking action. Every day, we take a massive amount of action, but our results don’t always match up with our efforts.

Here’s how to make your actions translate into results:

#1: Get Into A Routine

A routine is something you follow without fail every single day (or at least on specific days of the week). Following a routine, or having no routine at all, can singlehandedly make the difference between success and failure.

I recently read The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy, and one of his stories about routine really struck home. Here’s how it went:

Golfer Jack Nicklaus was known for his famous pre-shot routine. During an important Majors tournament, Nicklaus was at the top of his game. A psychologist timed the golfer from the moment he pulled the club out of the bag until the moment he hit the ball.

For each shot from start to finish, the timing of his routine never varied by more than one second.

That same psychologist measured Greg Norman during his collapse in the 1996 Masters. As the game progressed, his pre-shot routine became faster and faster.

If you don’t know what you are doing when you wake up, and right before you go to bed, you’re in trouble. Establishing a routine during the bookends of your day will get you into a rhythm of success. What are you doing each morning and evening? And in what order?

I always read for an hour before I go to bed. Lately, I’ve been responding to emails for 15 minutes before I begin reading. I continue to build backwards to get more activities wrapped into my routine.

People don’t mess up because they give themselves many goals. They mess up because they give themselves many goals without designating which portions of the day they’ll start working on each individual goal.

Without a routine in place, you risk missing out on your biggest goals.

#2: Think About What You Can Do

I am having a great time in college. I’m making new friends, running, and doing new things. I recently started to play pool and found myself playing for several hours on any given day.

While doing homework and showing up to a practice aren’t a problem, I was losing significant time for my business.

One day, I had had enough. I decided that I wouldn’t play any pool for one day. With this mindset, I did get more done (but I still ended up playing some pool).

I was so focused on not playing pool that I didn’t think about what else I could do. So instead of thinking, “I can’t play pool,” I began to think, “I can go to the library for an hour each day.” Then I started going to the library and getting more of my work done.

The moment I shifted from “I can’t do X” to “I can do Y,” making the transition became easier. I still play pool at college, but now I spend at least an hour each day on campus working on my business.

It’s easier to fight off a bad habit if you focus on what you can do instead, rather than simply cutting off the bad habit.

Furthermore, if you think you can’t do something, you are right. Only devote your time and attention towards the goals that you can do. Every battle begins and ends within the mind.

#3: Increase Your Desire

The desire you have for your work is important. If you desire your work, you’ll have no problem putting in the hours. If you don’t desire your work, you’ll want to get through it as soon as possible.

Desire gets you across the finish line. A lack of desire encourages you to find any reason to stop short.

If you want to increase your desire, the simple act of writing your desire to achieve each goal will increase your likelihood of success. If you want to get 100 subscribers each day, write the following:

“I WILL GET 100 SUBSCRIBERS EACH DAY BY THE END OF X.”

The all caps is very important here. Not only that, but giving yourself a reasonable deadline will make you hone in your efforts to meet the deadline.

If you give yourself an unreasonable deadline, you’ll lose motivation when you don’t accomplish your goal. If you give yourself a reasonable, but more challenging, deadline, you’ll make daily progress until you accomplish your goal.

If you want to get back in touch with your niche, simply write, “I LOVE [NICHE NAME]” and you’ll come to believe it. If you write about your desire long enough, that desire will ignite in a powerful way.

#4: Read A Lot Of Books

Reading has had a big impact on my success. Reading the right books about your niche allows you to acquire new knowledge. Once you apply the right knowledge, you’ll get better results in any area you are pursuing.

Each month, I set a target for myself to read 10 books. That adds up to at least 120 books every year, which is far more than what most people read. I won’t go into detail about reading a lot of books because I discussed that in a previous post.

Regardless of what niche you’re in, reading personal development books will work wonders for you. Personal development books help you become the best you imaginable. Some focus on productivity while others focus on relationships, but they all focus on making you perform effectively and efficiently in anything that you do.

#5: Analyze Successful People

There’s always that one cool kid in school who everyone wants to emulate. Becoming cool meant hanging with that cool kid. In a similar way, to become successful, you have to hang out with people who are already successful.

This version of hanging out consists of you reading their content, watching their interviews, and consuming virtually every piece of content they were involved in.

By doing that, you’ll learn a lot about how these individuals became successful. You’ll learn from their habits and expertise. Remember, you’re only as good as the company you keep. If you want to become successful, start following the example of successful people now.

In Conclusion

It’s just as easy to fall short as it is to become successful. There are many people who work just as hard or harder than the world’s greatest innovators.

The difference between these two groups of people is how they devote their time and what goals they pursue and accomplish.

Success requires patience combined with a strong mindset. Once you have that mixture, and live by the five tactics, you’ve already won the battle. At that point, it’s just a matter of time before you inevitably walk into a goldmine.

Which of these tactics resonated with you the most? Have any tips on becoming successful? Sound off in the comments section below.

Why The 10,000 Hour Rule Is Legit And How To Make It Happen

December 26, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

Why The 10,000 Hour Rule Is Legit And How To Make It Happen

Patience is a virtue for a reason, but unfortunately, patience is also rare to come across. There are many people who are frustrated with where they are and wondering why they are not at where they want to be. They want the vision to be accomplished now, not later.

There were times when I was this person, and I believe it is fair to say that we have all had this kind of experience at some point in our lives. It is the feeling of impatience and a desire to move up. It is the feeling where we realize that putting in an immense amount of work does not result in an overnight change. Instead, these changes are gradual, and I would argue that it takes 10,000 hours to go from unsuccessful to successful in any area.

Where and when I first heard of this rule, I don’t quite remember. There are many people who reference the 10,000 hour rule. If I had to take a guess, I would say that Buffer was probably the blog where I first learned about the 10,000 hour rule.

When I first heard of the rule, I was skeptical. How can we possibly know that it takes 10,000 hours to become successful in any field? Why can’t it just take 5,000 hours instead? Why is it an exact number?

This is where patience becomes important. The people who think, “Why not 5,000 hours?” may eventually come to think, “Why not 1,000 hours?” Many people have a desperate desire to get the journey over with that forget to enjoy every second of the journey.

In this journey, it is entirely possible for you to invest 10,000 hours of time into one area, and it is in this area where you will become the established expert of your niche. If you ask numerous professional athletes whether they practiced for 10,000 hours or not, I am sure that most of those athletes would say they have practiced for over 10,000 hours within their lifetimes.

Many of the successful bloggers have been at it for several years. Some of these people have been blogging for multiple years while others have been blogging for more than a decade. Within that time period, it is easy to assume that these people worked in those areas for 10,000 hours within their lifetimes.

Benefits To Putting In The 10,000 Hours

There are many benefits to putting in 10,000 hours of your time into one area. Although some of these benefits are obvious, others are not as obvious.

Including these benefits in an article about the legitimacy of the 10,000 hour rule serves as motivation for everyone who aspires to become a leader of their niche, do something really well, and be known for something remarkable by putting in the time.

The most obvious benefit is that you achieve your goal. If your goal was to be a blogger with a full-time income, putting in the 10,000 hours will most likely result in you becoming the blogger with the full-time income.

Another benefit that exists that some people know about is the ability to raise the bar higher. You can aspire to make double the income you are making within a certain amount of time. Then, you can dream bigger for your next 10,000 hours.

One of the benefits depends on what you pursue, but it is a benefit that few people know about. Each time you implement the 10,000 hour rule and become successful in an area, it is easier to become successful in another area in a shorter amount of time.

Neil Patel is a successful blogger who has multiple blogs that get hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors. It took his blog Quick Sprout 4 years and 9 months to get 100,000 monthly visitors. For his next blog, KISSMetrics, it took 1 year and 10 months to achieve the same goal. After KISSMetrics was Crazy Egg which reached the same milestone in 1 year and 6 months. The reason why Neil was able to get each blog passed the milestone faster than the previous one was because be knew more about blog traffic each time he started a new blog.

It is easy to imagine that Neil learned a lot about SEO, blogging, social media when he created Quick Sprout. Quick Sprout took the longest to grow because Neil had to start from square one. By the time he created KISSMetrics, Neil already know a lot about blogging.

After KISSMetrics’ success, he learned more information about blogging. This resulted in Crazy Egg quickly reaching 100,000 visitors per month. It got easier for Neil each time just as it will get easier for you to achieve the same goal once you accomplish it the first time.

In Conclusion

The 10,000 hour rule is one of the most powerful rules ever invented. This rule emphasizes the need to be patient and put in the time and effort to accomplish your biggest goals. Goals do not get accomplished just by thinking about them.

In the end, it is how you utilize these 10,000 hours that will determine how quickly you become successful as well as how you become successful. Showing up is not good enough. You need to be effective when you show up to get better results. The more you work on your goals, the quicker they will be accomplished.

According to the 10,000 hour rule, working for one hour every day on becoming a key player in your industry will result in this status becoming a reality in 27 years. Putting in four hours every day will result in the same goal getting accomplished in seven years.

Putting in 8 hours of work every day (which is possible if you are not in the 9-to-5 status quo) will result in you getting this goal accomplished in a little under three and a half years. These numbers indicate that the more work you put in (as long as it is productive work), the earlier you will be a key player in your industry.

What is your opinion on the 10,000 hour rule?

The 3 Ideal Activities To Do On Your Downtime To Recharge

September 20, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

Recharge

No matter what niche you are in, you will (need to) have downtime. Taking breaks is important because it allows you to think with a clean slate the next time you go back to your work. There are few people who can work for countless hours straight, and those people are the exceptions, not the rule. For most of us (that means you, me, and countless others), we need some downtime. However, there are many people who spend their downtime doing the wrong things. Those wrong things include watching TV, surfing the web, and doing other unproductive activities that eat up more time than we realize and make it harder for us to get back to our work each time. However, there are some positive ways to spend your downtime. Here are the big three:

  1. Spend time with your family. Without a good family, all of the wealth you could possibly accumulate would not be worth it. Family comes first, and I would not be where I am today if this was not a core belief for my own family. Your family consists of the people who you will know for the rest of your life, so treat them well.
  2. Exercise. I cannot emphasize enough how much running has indirectly helped my business. Running taught me that it is possible to thrive after putting in a lot of hard work. Exercising over a long period of time has given many people the discipline needed for success.
  3. Read a book. Not only do you get to learn more, but in some cases, you will be able to read a thrilling story. There are some books that we read that we simply never want to stop reading. Unbroken, Tipping Point, and Purple Cow are three books that you won’t want to put down until you finish reading them.

Those are the three best things to do during your downtime. There are plenty of other things you could do during your downtime, but most of those things involve procrastinating, losing time, and getting stuck doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason. What are your thoughts on the list? Do you have any additional things you do during your downtime that you enjoy and find valuable? Please share your thoughts and advice below.

The 3 Steps To Accomplishing Any Goal

September 12, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Goals

One of the most important traits of successful people in the ability to accomplish goals. Unfortunately, goal accomplishment is also a trait that most people lack. For most people, expectations get created, but they never get reached. The reason many people do not accomplish their goals is because they never take the time to set themselves up for success.

Before doing anything else, these people need to identify their goals. That is the first step, and believe it or not, it is a step that many people do not think about, or they do it wrong. First off, your goals need to be clear. If you want to make more money online, you can make $0.05 and have a fulfilled goal. Instead, be specific. How much money do you want to make, and when do you want to achieve this goal?

After that, you need to create the framework you will use to accomplish the goal. This second step is all about planning. You need to identify what days you are going to work on your goals as well as what you will do on those days.

The third and final step, by far the most important, is implementation. Without applying the third step, then the other first two steps were in vain. If you create a plan but never implement it, then what really was the point?

By accomplishing goals with this three step formula, you will increase the likelihood of you accomplishing your goals. What are your thoughts on the list, and how do you do with accomplishing your own goals? Please share your thoughts below.

Super Productivity Overload: How To Have The Most Productive Week You’ve Ever Had

August 31, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

productivity

When looking back at all of the weeks I have been working, I can easily look back and identify when I was the most productive. From July 21st to July 27th, I did an array of tasks:

  1. Write 20 blog posts
  2. Write 20,000 words for an upcoming book
  3. Do 12 scripts for a membership site
  4. Schedule 50 Facebook posts
  5. Do 10 YouTube videos
  6. Schedule 5 YouTube videos

All of the things you see here got accomplished in just seven days, and none of those are typos, and I didn’t stuff in some extra 0’s just to make everything look better. I am a big supporter of the weekly score card which I used when accomplishing these goals. One of the big things I noticed on this score card compared to others was that there were fewer things on the list. My typical score card has far more than 10 things on the list. I cut some of those off the list which narrowed it down to six. I could now focus more of my attention on six goals compared to spending less attention on ten or more goals.

I decided to go back and see how I was able to do all of these things, and then I put a few things together:

  1. The two week family vacation was coming up which meant I knew I would be kicking back and relaxing during those two weeks (yes, I do kick back and relax). This week is similar to what runners would call sprinting to the finish line.
  2. I had more deadlines. One of the reasons was that I only had two YouTube videos scheduled which would not have lasted the entire vacation. I would have missed a week, and for someone who has the need to be consistent, that would have been bad. In addition, I knew I would only have four days to complete an entire membership site which is why I knew all of the scripts had to be done in advance.
  3. I had more time to focus on less goals. Although these goals were by no means walk in the parks, I could zone in on them instead of overwhelming myself with too many goals in one week.

In other words, this was a strong sprint to the finish line filled with fewer but more important deadlines. Most people wait to do the strong sprint to the finish line weeks before the end of the year. Now I have been finding any excuse possible to sprint for the finish line. That is why I am the most productive during the summer. It is my long and strong sprint to the finish line so I did more than was expected of me before school begins. Last year, I did 40 YouTube videos in two weeks just so I would not have to worry about them during school (some of those videos were even done past midnight).

Are you ready to have the most productive week of your life? Find your reason to sprint to the finish and only choose to do the goals that are going to bring forth the biggest impact possible.
