how to get more blog traffic

The Biggest Mistake Bloggers Make

January 13, 2014 by Marc Guberti 19 Comments

The biggest mistake that I have seen many bloggers make is relying on the search engines for traffic. On some of the days my blog got 200 daily views, 10% of that traffic was from search engines. If I relied on the search engines, there would be some days when I only got 20 views instead of 200 views.

The first time my blog got over 400 views, less than 10% of that traffic came from search engines. That big 400 would have been under 40 if I relied on the search engines. The SEO tactics are out there, and although they won’t lead to dramatic success in the short-term, they will help out in the long-term.

Right now, you’re probably wondering how I got the other 360 or so views on my blog when I got 400 views in one day. I did not use any traffic exchange sites to pull this off. Instead, I used social media. Social media contributed to about 200 visitors on that day. Those 200 visitors looked at my other blog posts because I pay special attention to reducing my blog’s bounce rate.

That’s how I got over 400 views and over 200 visitors in one day mainly with social media. Twitter and Pinterest were the driving forces of that day’s success, and the successes of many other days as well. On that day, over 150 people came to my blog from Twitter and over 50 people came to my blog from Pinterest.

While the search engines are a great way of getting traffic, there are going to be some good days with the search engines, but there are also going to be some bad days. In order to get more traffic to your blog, you need to utilize your social networks instead of focusing on the search engines. The search engines are a great way to get traffic, but social networks are more reliable, and for me, they have had better results.

How did you come across this blog? Did you click on the link in my tweet, click on my pin, or use the search engines to find me? You may have used the search engine to find me, but if I had to take a guess, I would guess that you found this blog post on a social network.

5 Ways To Increase The Amount Of Time Visitors Spend On Your Blog

January 5, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Millions of people are competing for attention on the web. In fact, there are over 100,000 blogs being created every day. The need for attention is obvious, but getting and keeping attention is not easy. In order to get and keep attention, you need visitors who are going to stick around. Here are 5 ways to increase the amount of time your visitors spend on your blog:

  1. Add links to your older blog posts in your newer blog posts. This will give your visitors the ability to look at more of your blog post. Adding links to your older blog posts will also reduce your blog’s bounce rate. Here are some examples of this in action.
  2. Write quality content. Once you get someone to your blog, quality content will be the deciding factor of whether or not the visitor stays on your blog for an extended period of time.
  3. Get your visitors to subscribe to your blog. A subscribed visitor is one who will constantly come back to your blog. After reading your blog enough times, the subscriber may decide to look at pages of your blog posts.
  4. Have a menu with good options. Your blog’s menu needs to have a contact, about me, and other options as well. The more options you give a visitor, the longer they will stay on your blog.
  5. Show them your best. If you don’t have this on your blog already, you need the widget that shows your most popular blog posts. Many times, a blog’s most popular blog posts also happen to be the best posts on that blog. If someone sees your best, they will be inclined to stay on your blog.

By increasing the amount of time your visitors stay on your blog, your visitors will be able to know more about you. Your visitors may look at your products, contact you with a question, or buy one of your products. The longer you get your visitors to stay on your blog, the better your results will be.

Why You Need Links To Your Older Blog Posts In Your New Blog Posts

January 2, 2014 by Marc Guberti 5 Comments

The older a blog post gets, the less times it gets visited. As new blog posts push older blog posts to the second, third, fourth, and other pages of your blog, they start to lose attention. That lost attention can also result in a decrease in traffic. However, if you constantly make your old blog posts new, you will be able to increase your traffic to those old blog posts.

When people click on a link to one of your older blog posts, it decreases your bounce rate percentage. Decreasing your blog’s bounce rate is a little known way to boost your SEO. In addition, your visitors will see more of your content. The more someone sees your content, the more likely they are to remember who you are. If someone likes your new blog post and your older blog post, they may search around your blog for a while.

Adding links to your older blog posts in your newer blog posts is the ultimate way to get people to stay on your blog for an extended period of time. Right when someone finishes reading your newest blog post, they can click a link to an older blog post. If your older blog posts have links to your other blog posts, you will be able to increase the amount of time someone stays on your blog.

If you include links in your new blog posts to your older blog posts, you will be able to keep people on your blog for a longer period of time and decrease your blog’s bounce back rate. By implementing this tactic, you will increase your traffic and SEO.

December 21, 2013 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

Get More Blog Traffic

Getting traffic is essential towards the success of any blog. You need people to see your blog in order to get more sales, more subscribers, and more visibility. For all new bloggers, getting traffic is a challenge. There are some blogs right now that have been around for a long time but still aren’t getting a lot of traffic. Some bloggers want to go from 100 visitors every day to 1,000 visitors every day and keep on growing. Regardless of where your blog stands, here are 10 ways to get more blog traffic.

  1. Post regularly and consistently. Writing 2 blog posts every day increased my traffic by 50%. Before that, I only wrote 1 blog post every day.
  2. Utilize SEO in your blogging strategy. There are a lot of things that you need to know about SEO. Here are two articles that will help you increase your blog’s SEO.
  3. Share your blog posts on your social networks. Your audience of followers won’t know about your blog until you tell them about it.
  4. Guest post on other blogs. Guest blogging will allow you to establish yourself as a quality writer. When people see you as a quality writer, they will visit your blog. In addition, writing the guest post gives your blog an extra backlink if you include it in the guest post or in your bio for the guest blog.
  5. Talk about your blog posts on YouTube. People will be able to see you and hear your voice as you describe your blog post. At the end of the video, you should promote your blog by telling others about it or having your blog’s URL on display.
  6. Answer questions on Yahoo! Answers And Wiki Answers. You can establish yourself as an expert of your niche, and you can add a link to your blog at the end of the answer.
  7. Use Help A Reporter Out. Help A Reporter Out (HARO) is one of the ways to get people to write about you. As more people write about you, you will get more backlinks and visibility.
  8. Have a product. You can use your product to promote your blog or have coupons that are exclusive to your visitors (which will encourage more people to join your blog). Having a product will also establish yourself as an expert.
  9. Include a link to your blog in your email signature. The people you email could be your friends, clients, or other people who you happen to know. They would be interested if you showed them your blog.
  10. Add social sharing buttons to your blog. This will allow your visitors to share your blog posts on their social networks, and this will result in an increase in traffic.

What are your tips for increasing traffic to a blog? Which of these tips was your favorite?

How To Write Top-Notch Blog Posts

December 11, 2013 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

There are millions of blogs out there, but few of them are getting hundreds of visitors every day. Even fewer blogs get thousands of visitors a day. It is entirely possible that 10% of the blogs get 90% of the traffic. The reason the top blogs are getting a lot of traffic is because of quality content. There may be some marketing strategies as well, but visitors will only keep on coming because the blog posts are really good.

Writing a blog post is easy. Writing a top-notch blog post proves to be more of a challenge. The entire blog post has to flow from start to finish, but there need to be other components as well.

Before you start writing your next blog post, ask yourself these questions:

“What kind of people are visiting my blog?”

“What knowledge do these people need that I have?”

The top-notch blogs are usually one of the following:

  1. A blog by a famous person (as long as that person was famous before the blog caught on).
  2. A blog offering advice, tips, and expertise.
  3. A blog with the latest news stories.

Most people are represented by Example #2 although it is possible for your blog to be Example #3. Example #1’s are not as abundant as the other two.

Now that you have asked yourself those questions and identified which kind of blog you are, it’s time to create those top-notch blog posts. Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Have a strong title. The title controls the entire direction of the blog post’s content.
  2. Address certain problems in your niche that too many people face. Too many people face the problem of not being able to write top-notch blog posts. This blog post addresses the problem.
  3. Have bit size paragraphs of text. A big wall of text will scare off the reader. Turn your blog posts into bit size paragraphs so they are easier to read. This will also allow you to stay clear in thought as you write your blog posts.
  4. Have some things in bold. By putting words or sentences in bold, you are able to highlight important takeaways from your blog. Certain words and sentences need to “pop-out.”
  5. Proofread your blog posts. You may find a certain area of your blog post that you want to elaborate on. You may not like the wordiness of one of your sentences. You may only end up finding a period in the wrong place or a spelling error. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

5 Ways To Improve Your Blog’s SEO

December 7, 2013 by Marc Guberti 13 Comments

SEO is a very important part of your blog because it allows search engines such as Google to find your blog. Without a powerful presence on social media, having good SEO or not means the difference between being seen and being invisible. Here are 5 ways to improve your SEO so your blog gets noticed by the masses:

  1. Reduce your blog’s bounce back rate. For a really long time, I did nothing about bounce back rate. I didn’t know anything about bounce back rate, how to reduce bounce back rate, or that it even had an impact on SEO. There are a bunch of ways to reduce the bounce back rate on your blog, and all of them are easy to implement. After implementing these tactics, the bounce back rate for my own blog went from a rate of 83% to a rate of 62% in just one month.
  2. Use words in your blog posts’ titles that help out towards SEO. On this blog, there are a lot of posts with one of the following words in the title: SEO, Blogging, Social Media, Twitter, Pinterest, and Business. By using these keywords, people will find you when they type those keywords into Google’s search box.
  3. Keep your blog fresh. By updating your blog with new content as much as you can, you will rank higher for Google’s keywords. Google doesn’t want to put up a blog that hasn’t been updated for 2 years. Make sure your blog is properly getting updated so it rises above the competition. Showing up is not half the battle. However, showing up consistently is half the battle.
  4. Get backlinks for your blog. One way to get a backlink for your blog is by becoming a guest blogger. Another way to get a backlink for your blog is just by having your own Pinterest account. Another way to get a backlink from your blog is by commenting on other people’s blogs.
  5. Unlock social media’s potential. Social Media is big towards SEO. The reason I really like social media is that you have more control over your results. If you have a big following on a social network, you can get a lot of visitors to your blog that way. Include social media buttons at the bottom of your blog posts so your visitors can easily share your blog posts across all of their social networks.
  6. Bonus: I wrote a blog post about 100 Amazing Blogging Tips. Some of the tips are SEO related while others are just about having a successful blog.
