17 Ways To Grow Your Pinterest Audience

June 22, 2014 by Marc Guberti 4 Comments

Pinterest growth

There have been many blog posts about Pinterest that go into detail about why you need to be on Pinterest and how Pinterest totally kicks butt in the social media world. However, there are many people who do not know how to successfully optimize Pinterest into a platform that increases sales, traffic, and subscribers. In order to increase your traffic, you need to build an audience around your content. In addition, the audience you build needs to be a targeted one. If your audience has no interest in the things you pin about, then it won’t work. In order to grow your audience on Pinterest, follow these 17 tips.

  1. Follow people who are likely to follow back. The better the ratio of followers to following is, the more likely that person is to follow you back. Don’t follow the people with 100,000 followers who are only following 100 people. Instead, follow the people with 500 followers who are following 500 people.
  2. Pin more content. As you pin more content, you will be able to create an audience that can decide for themselves whether you are the right fit for them or not. If you pin content based on your targeted following, then your followers will stick around, and some of them will repin your pins.
  3. Have a variety of boards. As you create more boards, your targeted audience grows. You can have multiple targeted audiences since you are able to pin about multiple interests.
  4. Have a lot of pins. More people will follow you on Pinterest if they see that your account is active. Most of the people with over 100,000 followers have 5,000 pins, and some of those people also have over 10,000 pins. Quality and quantity are king.
  5. Pin content worth sharing. The more you spread across Pinterest, the more followers you are going to get. Pinning content worth sharing is a very simple way to grow your following.
  6. Verify your website in your bio. Verifying your website in your bio makes you look more authentic. In addition, when people preview your account, they see the giant checkmark. It’s not as effective as Twitter’s blue checkmark, but having the checkmark will be effective enough to get more followers.
  7. Write an attractive bio. The bio is one of the first things most people look at before they click the follow button. In order to write an attractive bio, follow these tips.
  8. Create group boards. Group boards allow more people to know about you on Pinterest because those group boards get featured on other people’s accounts. Having group boards is a great way to systematize Pinterest by having other people update them for you. If you do not have group boards, then you need to create some now.
  9. Comment on other people’s pins. Commenting on other people’s pins allows you to engage with other people. These people will be likely to follow you back so you leave more comments on their pins.
  10. Repin and like other people’s pins. The more you repin and like someone’s pins, the more inclined that person will feel to return the favor by following you. Repinning and liking other people’s pins will also allow you to share more quality content with your followers.
  11. Use hashtags. Hashtags are the SEO for Pinterest, and using hashtags will increase the amount of likes and repins your pin gets at the same time.
  12. Pin infographics. People love infographics, and if you choose a really good infographic, you have a better chance of going viral. One of the infographics I tweeted out to 60,000 followers at the time got over 100 retweets and favorites.
  13. Pin videos. Videos get more engagement because they provide value or humor with the click of a button without leaving Pinterest. The better the videos are, the more likely people will share your pin. All you need to do to find good videos in your niche is by looking around on YouTube. They’ll come up.
  14. Add a Pinterest follow button to your blog. My Pinterest follow button is strategically placed at the sidebar of my blog where it gets a lot of attention. Some of the people who visit my blog also follow me on Pinterest. The great thing about that is if someone follows me after visiting my blog, that person liked my content enough to click the button and then proceed to follow me. That’s a high quality follower.
  15. Run contests. The easiest way to get more followers is to run a contest. Offering a $25 Amazon Gift Card to one of your random followers is an easy and reliable way to run a contest. Your pin will also have a really good chance of going viral on Pinterest. Then, you’ll gain hundreds of extra followers in one day.
  16. Schedule your pins. Once you get followers, it is important to keep them all happy. Once your boards and audience are large enough, you should not share too many pins at the same time. Scheduling your pins will show all of your followers that you are active on Pinterest (people who log in 1 hour after you posted your pins don’t know if you are active or not). In addition, scheduling your pins will prevent you from clogging up someone else’s feed (which often results in unfollows).
  17. Promote your Pinterest pins on your other social networks. Use the audiences that you have already build in order to grow your audience on Pinterest. Many people forget to tap into their existing audiences, but nevertheless, it is a great way to get more followers on Pinterest.

By growing your audience on Pinterest, your content will spread faster on Pinterest and reach more people. Growing your audience will lead to more engagement which will result in your audience growing even larger. By implementing these 17 tips, you will be able to see your Pinterest audience dramatically grow. What are your thoughts on the list? Do you have any additional tips? Please share your thoughts and advice below.

5 Ways To Get More People To See Your Pinterest Pins

June 16, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

social media marketing

Getting viral on Pinterest is not as hard as it sounds. When under 500 followers, I was able to get over 1,000 repins and likes for one of my pins. It was amazing to see one of my pins get more repins than I had followers at the time, but it taught me that getting viral on Pinterest is not as hard as it sounds. All you need to do is get enough people to see your pin. These are 5 ways that you can get more people to see your pins so they are more likely to go viral on Pinterest.

  1. Pin more frequently throughout the day. I use ViralWoot (formerly PinWoot) to schedule my pins. I schedule at least 4 pins every day, and sometimes I pin at the moment. Pinning more often allows more people to see my pins and makes it more likely for one of those pins to go viral.
  2. Pin something that people would want to repin. Just because it is there does not mean it wins attention. A motivational message is something that people would want to repin. However, people would not to repin a message that says success is unattainable (which is obviously false).
  3. Grow a targeted following. By growing a targeted following, you will have an audience who is eager to see your latest pins. These targeted followers will be more likely to repin and spread your content.
  4. Tweet about your pins. You can use any social network to promote another social network. While tweeting about pins to your Twitter followers is one option, you can also share your pins on your Facebook Page, your Instagram account, or any other social network that you have.
  5. Focus on specific boards. A board with 1,000 pins is going to get more attention than a board with only 10 pins. Make it a point to get at least 10 of your boards to 100 pins. Then, make it a point to get all of those boards to 500 pins. By constantly adding pins to those boards, you will give your followers more content to browse through. The longer your follower browses through your content, the more likely you will be to get a repin. Some people will repin 10 or more of your pins that are all on the same board.

Getting seen on any social network is critical towards growth. Pinterest is no exception. By getting seen more often on Pinterest, your content will be able to spread faster, and you will eventually become viral.

What are your thoughts on the list? Do you have any additional tips on getting your pins seen on Pinterest? Please share your thoughts and advice below.

The 7 Laws Of Social Media Marketing

June 14, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is one of the most important ways to grow your business. Social media allows you to build connections that last for a long period of time, and marketing your products and blog posts on a powerful platform will allow you to get more traffic. The only way to be successful with social media marketing is by knowing what tactics must be followed. These are the Seven Laws Of Social Media Marketing:

  1. Provide quality content. You can spend $100,000 on advertising, but in the end, quality content is what makes people stick around. You may get a big spike in traffic in the beginning, but that traffic will go on a rapid decline if the content you lead your visitors to is bad.
  2. Be patient. It’s easily to get discouraged with only 100 followers. However, by being patient and constantly learning, you will eventually grow your following dramatically. There was a point when I had 0 followers on Twitter, and there was a point when I was stuck at 1,667 followers for several months. By being patient, I ended up discovering a method which I now use to gain 500 followers every day. In addition, the only reason this blog is successful is because of my Twitter account. Then, everything else (SEO, better content, etc) came into place.
  3. Optimize your blog. This one is a must (but then again, they all are). Once you get visitors, throwing away that traffic would be such a shame. This is the part that many people forget, and as a result, they throw away the traffic they get. Boost the chances of having someone subscribe to your blog by creating a blog that is designed to have a very low bounce rate.
  4. Have a clear message. Your message determines who your targeted audience is. Make your message clear by focusing on specific niches instead of having an unclear message with too much clutter. It is better to focus on 1 niche than it is to give some of your attention to 10 things you are interested in and make that your message.
  5. Listen to others. One of the qualities of leaders is to listen before speaking. Take the time to read your followers’ tweets before you respond to them. In addition, listen to people’s problems concerning your niche. What are certain aspects of your niche that give people the hardest time? Listening will help you identify the answer to that question and give you an idea for your next product.
  6. Include a free prize. The more free prizes you have, the better. Include a free prize in your social media marketing strategy so you get more likes, retweets, repins, or any other social media metric that you want. You can also include a free prize on your blog so more people who go to your blog from social networks are likely to become subscribers.
  7. Post content more often on your social networks. Going from tweeting once every hour to tweeting once every 30 minutes did me a lot of good. Going on to send out one tweet every 20 minutes yielded better results. Part of social media marketing is getting seen by as many people as possible. By scheduling posts (which allows you to post consistently), more people will be able to see your posts. In addition, send out posts when most of your followers are online. Facebook has its own statistics for Facebook Pages that allow you to see this while you can use Tweriod to see when people are on Twitter.

In order to get the best results from social media marketing, you need to follow these rules. Although they do not guarantee overnight results, performing these actions will allow you to see a dramatic increase in traffic and conversions over time. What are your thoughts on these social media marketing laws and do you have any other tips you would like to share? Please share your thoughts and advice below.

Why Small Businesses Need To Start Pinning On Pinterest

May 14, 2014 by Marc Guberti 4 Comments

pinterest pin

In order for a small business to become successful, that small business must have a big audience. There are no questions about this one. Almost every successful business and individual has a big audience behind them. While there are many ways to build an audience, Pinterest provides a powerful way to build a larger audience that engages with your pins.

Pinterest users engage on the social network more often than on other social networks. While 1% of tweets are retweets, 80% of pins are repins. That means a small business is more likely to go viral on Pinterest than on other social networks. If you need your message to spread quickly, Pinterest is the way to go. Some of my pins have received thousands of likes and repins because users love to repin other people’s pins.

Another big reason why small businesses should start pinning on Pinterest is because Pinterest allows its users to categorize information based on boards. If you provide social media tips, you can create multiple boards that deal with specific social networks. You can have one board with Twitter tips, another board with Pinterest tips, and so on. Pinterest’s boards will allow you to expand your knowledge and give your followers specific content. Specific content will make it easier for your followers to find what they are looking for. Making it easy for your followers to find what they want to see will result in those followers coming back for more information.

On Pinterest, it is easy for small businesses to find targeted users who are on Pinterest for multiple hours every day. Pinterest is a very addictive social network, and that is something small businesses need to use to their advantage. What are your thoughts on the list? Is your small business on Pinterest? Please share your thoughts below.

How To Track Your Progress On Twitter And Pinterest

May 9, 2014 by Marc Guberti 6 Comments

Pinterest and Twitter

If you want to grow on social media, you need to figure out how much you are growing. Many people want to improve their results on their social networks, but most people do not know how to find the results they are already getting. People who do not know the results they are currently getting are implementing a strategy with a blindfold on. Imagine trying to increase your blog traffic when you don’t know how many people are visiting your blog in the first place.

Luckily, there are ways to track your progress on social networks. The two social networks that I use the most are Twitter and Pinterest. Over the years, I have stumbled across many Twitter and Pinterest tools. Many of them were really bad, but some of them shined out from the rest. As a person who runs on statistic and data, I need to know how my strategy is already working before I implement a new strategy. In order to see if my new strategy works, I want to see how the old strategy works first. That is why I use two tools (one for Twitter and one for Pinterest) to track my statistics so I know what works and what does not work.

For Twitter, I use TwitterCounter. Although some people have complained about TwitterCounter not updating the statistics for you automatically, I get the best experience out of TwitterCounter because I update my own statistics every day. That way, I get to see different numbers instead of the same, constant number some users get when they do not check their statistics for a while. TwitterCounter does a neat job at tracking your number of followers, number of people you are following, and the number of tweets you send out every day for up to 6 months (free version). Premium services offer more statistics and allow you to see all of your statistics from day one.

For Pinterest, I use Tailwind. Tailwind is similar to TwitterCounter, but it has less features for free users. I go on Tailwind every day which is why I am able to get the best experience as a free user. Tailwind allows free users to see statistics for the number of followers they gained and number of pins sent out from 1 week ago.

Tracking your progress is very important towards identifying whether the strategy you are using is helping or harming your social media presence. Do you use any other statistics sites to track your progress?

7 Ways To Get More People To Engage With Your Pins

May 7, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

In order to build strong connections on Pinterest, your followers need to engage with your pins. Being on Pinterest and getting people to follow you is not enough. You need these followers to engage with your pins so that you can have longer conversations with your followers. These are the 7 ways to get more people to engage with your pins.

  1. Include a call to action. A call to action encourages someone to do something (click, like, repin) instead of just reading what is there. Pins that include a call to action have 80% more engagement than pins that do not include a call to action.
  2. Pin about trending topics. When topics trend on Pinterest, millions of people are looking at those topics and engaging with the pins about those topics. Pins related to a trending topic get a 90% increase in click throughs compared to other pins.
  3. Pin more tutorial pins. People are constantly looking for more knowledge. They want to learn more about their niche, learn about a certain craft, or learn a random fact. There are many things that you know about your niche that others do not know. Pinning tutorial pins will portray you as an expert in your niche. In addition, tutorial pins see a 42% higher click through rate than the average pin.
  4. Pin when most people are on Pinterest. While most people on Facebook and Twitter use those social networks in the morning, most people on Pinterest tend to be active during the evening. In addition, many people are addicted to Pinterest, and these people are on Pinterest for several hours every day. According to HubSpot, the ideal times to pin on Pinterest are between 2pm-4pm and 8pm-1am It is important to not overlook that the time is 8 at night. The ideal time to post on most social networks is 8 am, but Pinterest is different. There are many night owls who use Pinterest, and it is important to pin at those times to get the most engagement for your pins.
  5. Like and repin other people’s pins. When you repin other people’s pins, those people will get notified that you liked and/or repinned one of their pins. Some of these people will decide to return the favor and comment on one of your pins as well.
  6. Decide whether you want people to share your pin or have a discussion. You will want some of your pins to get shared across Pinterest while you would prefer that other pins build discussions with you and your followers. Pins with a lot of repins are more likely to be shared across Pinterest while pins with more likes encourage more discussion. The best thing to do is have some pins that encourage sharing and other pins that encourage discussion. In order to find out which pins would lead to what effect, you need to see how your followers have engaged with the pins that you have already sent out. If you do not know how your followers engage with your pins, then you need to send out several pins and see which ones get multiple repins and which ones get multiple likes.
  7. Build a targeted following. A targeted following who is interested in what you provide will definitely like and repin your pins. If you talk about sports, and all of your followers love sports, your pins are going to see more engagement. Building a targeted following will also help you when someone clicks on the pin and gets sent to your blog.

These are the 7 ways to build more engagement for your pins. The average pin has a 1.1% click through rate. By using Tips 1-3 in the same pin, you would boost that click through rate to 5.3%. By using tips 4-7, you would get more people to see your pins with those high click through rates. By getting more people to see your pins with higher click through rates, you would be able to get several likes, repins, and comments for your pins.
