6 Ways To Lower Your Blog’s Bounce Rate

January 13, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

If you want people to stay on your blog for a longer period of time, you need to work on reducing your blog’s bounce rate. Bounce rate is how likely someone is to leave your blog after viewing only one part of your blog (home page, a blog post, etc) without viewing anything else. When those visits occur, your blog’s bounce rate will go up which is not good.

Bounce rate is a big factor towards the number of views I get on my blog. Right now, my bounce rate is close to 50% which is close to the Huffington Post’s bounce rate. I normally get twice as many views as I get visitors just because most of my visitors decide to stick around after reading one of my blog posts.

When someone sticks around, they get to learn more about you. That person gets to read more of your blog posts, and if that person like your writing, that person will become curious. That person decides to look at your bio, find your social networks, and take a look at your products.

Bounce rate is critical towards getting to know the people who visit your blog. Once you get someone on your blog, you need to keep that person on your blog for as long as possible. Having a low bounce rate will make sure people stay on your blog longer. Here are 6 ways to lower your blog’s bounce rate.

  1. Include links to your older blog posts in your newer blog posts. When you do this, make sure the older blog posts are related to the newer blog posts. A link to an older blog post about Twitter would not work well here, but a link to an older blog post about SEO would work well here. Bounce rate and SEO have something in common, and if you can connect the two together, have a link of the older blog post in your newer blog post. All you need to do is get people to click on the link to your older blog post in order to reduce your blog’s bounce rate.
  2. Have a big Contact Me button at the sidebar of your blog. If one of your visitors has a question, they will see that button and click on it. Not only does this allow you to interact with more of your visitors, but when the visitor clicks on your Contact Me button, that reduces your blog’s bounce rate.
  3. Use the Top Blog Posts Widget. The Top Blog Posts Widget will allow you to show your visitors your most popular blog post. When people think of popular blog posts, they think of the best blog posts on your blog. When they click on one of your top blog posts, they will stay on your blog for a longer period of time.
  4. Write two blog posts that complement each other. Then, schedule those blog posts weeks apart. For my blog post, 6 Advanced Twitter Tips, one of the tips was embedding tweets on your blog. I wrote both of these blog posts at the same time, but I scheduled them over week apart. That gave my blog post about embedding tweets enough time to go to Page 2 of my blog when my 6 Advanced Twitter Tips blog post got published.
  5. Break big blog posts into parts. I wrote a blog post about 5 Mistakes People Make On Pinterest. Then, I wrote a Part 2 for that blog post. People who visited the Part 2 decided to visit Part 1 of my blog post as well. Include links to all of your parts so your visitors can easily access them.
  6. Write content that people love. In order to keep someone on your blog, you need to write content that entices people to stay on your blog. When you write quality content, and your visitors see the link to another blog post, they will click on the link and read blog post after blog post.

Keeping visitors on your blog longer is essential towards getting them to know more about you. In order to increase the amount of time a visitor spends on your blog, you need to pay close attention to your blog’s bounce rate. The next time you create a blog post, create a blog post that is designed to reduce bounce rate by utilizing these 6 tactics.

The Biggest Mistake Bloggers Make

January 13, 2014 by Marc Guberti 19 Comments

The biggest mistake that I have seen many bloggers make is relying on the search engines for traffic. On some of the days my blog got 200 daily views, 10% of that traffic was from search engines. If I relied on the search engines, there would be some days when I only got 20 views instead of 200 views.

The first time my blog got over 400 views, less than 10% of that traffic came from search engines. That big 400 would have been under 40 if I relied on the search engines. The SEO tactics are out there, and although they won’t lead to dramatic success in the short-term, they will help out in the long-term.

Right now, you’re probably wondering how I got the other 360 or so views on my blog when I got 400 views in one day. I did not use any traffic exchange sites to pull this off. Instead, I used social media. Social media contributed to about 200 visitors on that day. Those 200 visitors looked at my other blog posts because I pay special attention to reducing my blog’s bounce rate.

That’s how I got over 400 views and over 200 visitors in one day mainly with social media. Twitter and Pinterest were the driving forces of that day’s success, and the successes of many other days as well. On that day, over 150 people came to my blog from Twitter and over 50 people came to my blog from Pinterest.

While the search engines are a great way of getting traffic, there are going to be some good days with the search engines, but there are also going to be some bad days. In order to get more traffic to your blog, you need to utilize your social networks instead of focusing on the search engines. The search engines are a great way to get traffic, but social networks are more reliable, and for me, they have had better results.

How did you come across this blog? Did you click on the link in my tweet, click on my pin, or use the search engines to find me? You may have used the search engine to find me, but if I had to take a guess, I would guess that you found this blog post on a social network.

How To Get More People From Pinterest To Visit Your Blog

January 12, 2014 by Marc Guberti 8 Comments

For the first time ever, my blog experienced back to back days of getting more than 20 visitors from Pinterest. Before this happened, I would normally get 5 visitors from Pinterest on a daily basis. I looked into what I did on Pinterest that day, and it didn’t take me long to realize why I got the growth in traffic.

The first thing I did was follow others. I must have followed at least 1,000 people on Pinterest on those days when I got more traffic. The following rate on Pinterest is about 300 people every hour. Once you reach the maximum rate, you can go back on Pinterest the next hour and follow another 300 people. That’s exactly what I did on those two days when I got more traffic from Pinterest than ever before.

When you follow other people on Pinterest, make sure they are your target audience. I follow people who are following boards about social media and blogging. I also make sure the people I follow are likely to follow me back. On the days my blog gets the most traffic from Pinterest, I am also gaining more Pinterest followers on that day than on any other day of the week.

Another thing you need to do is have a board with all of your blog posts. This is the board that I pin all of my blog posts on. When you write a blog post, it is very important to add pictures to your blog posts so people can pin your blog posts. Add pictures that give people an idea of what your blog post is about. This blog post has a picture of Pinterest’s logo because people who look at my board and find this pin will know what this blog post is about. When people see the YouTube logo, they know that the blog post is about YouTube videos.

When you have a board with over a hundred pins, not everyone is going to scroll down to the bottom of your board. Some of your older blog posts will be forgotten…unless you pin about them again. By pinning about your older blog posts, you will give your older blog posts relevance. People will visit your older blog posts just like they would visit any new blog post. If you decide to use this method, only pin 5 old blog posts every day. If you pin 100 old blog posts daily, people won’t have time to read them all. In addition, if you only have a few hundred posts, people will be annoyed with the repeat pins. It is okay to pin the same thing more than once on a board as long as you pin the same thing too often. I recommend pinning the same blog post on the same board once a week.

That’s how you can increase the traffic you get from Pinterest. I used these tactics to go from 5 daily visitors from Pinterest to over 50 daily visitors from Pinterest. The only way to see what this can do for your traffic is by giving it a try.

5 Things To Consider In Order To Choose The Best Guest Blogging Opportunity

January 12, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

Guest blogging is a powerful way to get more traffic to your blog and to get more people to know about you. When you find options, choosing where to guest blog can be a challenge. Here are 5 things to consider so you can choose the best guest blogging opportunity for you.

  1. Is the guest blog related to what you want to write about? When you guest blog, you want to reach your targeted audience. When the targeted audience goes to your blog, they will want to stay on your blog for a while.
  2. How many times are blog posts getting shared? Are the typical blog posts getting tweeted an average of 10 times or 100 times? The more times a blog post gets shared on the guest blog, the better.
  3. What is the approval process? How likely is it for your blog post to get approved, and how long does the approval process take. Go for guest blogs that approve a lot and have a quick approval process (1-3 days).
  4. What are the requirements? Do you have to write 300 words, or do you have to write 1,000 words? If you can write 1,000 words, and you want to, then go for it. However, writing 300 words is easier than writing 1,000 words.
  5. What’s the Alexa rank? Alexa is a powerful tool that allows you to see how any website ranks on the web. Alexa also shows bounce rate, the daily page views per visitors, and how long visitors stay on the site. Any guest blog with an Alexa rank under 1 million most likely gets 100+ visitors every day. The lower the Alexa rank, the more visitors that blog gets.

Guest blogging is a powerful way to reach a larger audience, but in order to choose the best guest blogging opportunity, you have to consider the target audience, how long it will take for you to write a blog post that will be approved, the benefits, and the amount of visitors that guest blog receives. There are many options, but only a few of those options are the cream of the crop.

Why You Need To Start Guest Blogging

January 11, 2014 by Marc Guberti 10 Comments

guest blogging

Guest bloggers publish their content on other people’s blogs. You may be wondering why guest bloggers post on other people’s blogs instead of their own blogs. However, guest bloggers are able to use guest blogging to get more traffic to their blogs. You may be a guest blogger, but you may know someone who isn’t a guest blogger. You may be someone who hasn’t guest blogged and wanted to know the benefits of guest blogging. You have come to the right post.

Guest blogging allows bloggers to put their content in front of a larger audience. There are blogs that are getting thousands of daily visitors and offer guest blogging opportunities. I commonly guest blog for Business2Community which gets thousands of daily visitors. When I first started to guest blog for Business2Community, my blog was getting 20-50 visitors every day. Now, my blog is getting over 200 visitors every day.

Guest blogging also improves your blog’s SEO. You can include a backlink to your blog either in the blog post or in your bio. This backlink will help you get more traffic, and quality backlinks are a factor in SEO. Not only will you get more short-term traffic, but you will also get more long-term traffic as well.

Guest blogging will ultimately allow you to increase your traffic short-term and long-term. More people will be sharing your content, and if you thank them quick enough, you can get a long conversation going on a social network. Guest blogging is a wonderful opportunity to get more people to know about your presence on the web.
