Will YouTube Still Be Top Dog After My College Graduation?

May 27, 2015 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

YouTube VS Meerkat VS Periscope VS Facebook

When YouTube made its debut, it was uncontested. If you wanted to upload a video, you went to YouTube. No questions asked. Over 1 billion users later, YouTube is still popular, but unlike in the past, YouTube now faces competition. Vimeo was the first competitor, and YouTube dominated. Twitter’s acquisition of Vine and Instagram’s 15 second videos to compete with Vine provided social media users with new ways to watch and upload videos that had nothing to do with YouTube. Sure, YouTube still thrived after Vine and Instagram, but what about now?

Meerkat and Periscope are now on the scene for real-time videos. Facebook is now an option for people who want to upload their videos to the web. Expect Pinterest to roll something out in the next year or two for video uploads.

I would graduate college in 2020, and a lot has changed on social media ever since high school started (I can only wonder what adults think about the changing world). One of those changes is social networks trying to copy each other while trying to be unique. Facebook now uses hashtags. YouTube now uses cards. Twitter’s update resembled Facebook’s update. More social networks are looking at YouTube’s empire and wondering, “Where are our videos? Why do we have to rely on YouTube?”

If you built your entire presence on YouTube, then you don’t have to worry just yet. YouTube’s saving grace is its age and Google power. It is already known that Google favors YouTube videos in its search engine. Moreover, the most popular videos on the web are on YouTube. If everything remained as is, YouTube would survive for my college graduation. It would still be a cool social network that people would visit for many years to come.

In the last two years, many video-focused social networks came into existence, and well-known social networks provided the option to their users. Vine now has millions of users while Meerkat and Periscope went viral days after they were released (I personally believe Periscope will be the superior of the two). Instagram and Facebook combined have over 1.25 billion users. Again, if everything remained the same, YouTube would definitely survive, but in this day in age, rapid innovations happen fast and often. In 2016, there will probably be another social network based on uploading videos. Twitter and Facebook both own multiple social networks capable of uploading videos without relying on YouTube. These social networks make it easy for users to upload videos via mobile. On YouTube, that’s a little complicated.

It is quite common for teens to migrate from social networks with parents to other social networks with fewer parents. That’s one reason why millions of teens migrated from Facebook to Instagram. YouTube is a place where parents go. My dad watches a YouTube video every day, and there is a zero percent chance that my dad is the only parent who watches at least one YouTube video every day. Teens already migrated to Vine. As Meerkat and Periscope get better, they may go over to those platforms and spend less time on YouTube. Let’s not forget that at one point, MySpace was the largest social network around.

For now, YouTube is safe. However, with innovation constantly on the horizon, YouTube must make changes so it can remain the top dog. YouTube must come up with an easier way for people to record and upload videos through their mobile devices. One of the annoying parts about YouTube is that you have to upload the video through something like iMovie, your computer’s camera, or ScreenFlow, and then upload that video to YouTube. On the latest social networks that specialize in videos, you can record a video right on the social network and then publish the video right form the social network. The entire process saves you a few steps.

YouTube allows live streaming, but the live streaming needs to be easily accessible to any YouTuber. My suggestion would be the ability to create videos within YouTube and a button that allows you to decide whether to do a live stream or not. YouTube needs to change in some way, and in particular, mobile optimization. More people nowadays use their mobile devices than their laptops.

I think the chances of YouTube surviving and thriving after my graduation and beyond are high, but the danger exists. By responding to the danger now while it is still far ahead in the game, YouTube should have a strong future. What are your thoughts on YouTube’ status? Do you believe apps like Meerkat and Periscope are the real deal or fluff? Please share your thoughts below.

5 Actionable Tips To Get Over 100 YouTube Views In Under 24 Hours

April 6, 2015 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

Get More YouTube Views

Wouldn’t it be awesome if every YouTube video you publish from here on got over 100 views on the day you published them? For most YouTubers, this would be a dream come true. After crossing this hurdle, it would be easier for YouTubers to cross the 200 views/day hurdle, and other hurdles as well. Getting 100 views on the day of a YouTube video’s publication seems to be the big number that many people go after.

As new YouTubers quickly realize, putting a video up on YouTube does not ensure that a video will get hundreds of views, let alone a single view. It your YouTube videos can get over 100 views right when they get published, that would give you good social proof, and in some cases, it only takes a few hundred views to set off a chain reaction of views. If you want your YouTube videos to get over 100 views on the day they are published, follow these tips:

#1: Build An Email List

Building your own email list gives you the power to send emails to a group of people who would love to view and share your content. Promoting my YouTube videos to my email list alone ensures me over 100 views on the day the video gets published. Growing an email list takes a long period of time, but it’s well worth the time. A large email list provides other benefits such as more blog traffic and successful product launches.

#2: Get More YouTube Subscribers

Out of all of the viewers your YouTube videos get directly from YouTube, most of those views will come from your subscribers. That is why the channels with 100,000 subscribers do better than the channels with a few hundred subscribers. You can get more YouTube subscribers through a variety of methods such as including an annotation in one of your videos that asks people to subscribe, asking people to subscribe in your video’s description, and posting valuable videos. You can read this article to learn more methods to get more YouTube subscribers.

#3: Make Your Videos Longer

Video length is one of the most under appreciated methods of getting more YouTube subscribers. Although YouTube is the third most popular search engine on the web, few people think of YouTube as a search engine. Just as you do on Google, you find what you want by typing keywords into the search bar. Then, the search engine brings up results. The only difference is that YouTube exclusively brings up videos in its search results.

What does this have to do with making videos longer? The answer is SEO. In YouTube’s SEO algorithm, they use minutes watched as a critical component to determine your video’s placement for its keywords. If you search keywords like social media tips and self-publishing tips, you’ll see that most of the videos are over five minutes long. Some of these videos are over an hour long.

Most of the long videos are watched for a longer period of time than the short videos. You can skim through an hour long video and only watch five minutes of it. However, that’s more minutes watched than any four minute video on the web (unless you watch that same four minute video multiple times).

With that said, the value that your videos provide is still important. You can’t produce a subpar 30 minute video and expect people to stick around for all 30 minutes. You won’t get any returning viewers that way either. Most of the views people get from their new YouTube videos are from the returning viewers (and most of those returning viewers are your subscribers). The only way your viewers will become returning viewers is if they like the first video they see from your channel.

#4: Promote Your YouTube Video On Social Media

Let your Facebook friends and Twitter followers know about your YouTube video. In fact, tell all of your social media audiences about the new video. One way YouTube videos spread is when people share them on their social networks. Some of your social media followers may decide to tweet your video or share it on Facebook. All of this sharing results in more exposure for your YouTube videos, and as a result, more traffic.

If you get 10 people who each have 1,000 followers to share your YouTube video, then your potential reach is 10,000 people. Then, some of those people’s followers may decide to share the content on their social networks, and it starts a chain reaction of social sharing.

#5: Submit Your YouTube Videos To StumbleUpon, Digg, and Reddit

Sometimes, the content posted on these three sites can suddenly go viral. One of my blog posts I submitted to StumbleUpon routinely got a dozen or so daily visitors. A day after I submitted that blog post to StumbleUpon, it got over 4,000 visitors in just 48 hours. I used Reddit to promote a free coupon to one of my training courses (it was new, so I needed to have the social proof), and the course got over 500 sign-ups in two days. All of those sign-ups came without an email list, promotion on my blog, or a social media campaign involving my other social networks.

Your YouTube videos have a chance to pick up a lot of views. Although the amount of minutes these videos get watched is just as important, a video with 10,000 views looks more attractive to the average YouTube viewer than a video with 50 views. Submitting your YouTube videos to these three websites is typically a hit or a miss. The YouTube videos will either go viral or only get a few viewers from this method, but getting a few viewers is always better than getting no viewers.

In Conclusion

YouTube, with the help of its users, has made more videos available on the web than any other website. With countless videos uploaded to YouTube, an algorithm is needed to determine which videos get the most attention. Although knowing the algorithm is helpful towards getting more views and subscribers, you cannot rely on the algorithm because they constantly change. What’s stopping YouTube from launching a Penguin or Panda of its own? YouTube’s algorithm updates don’t cause as much panic as the Google updates (the sky is falling, the sky is falling), but its algorithm does have updates. At one point, the success of a YouTube video was measured by its views. Currently, that success is measured by minutes watched.

You need to grow an audience outside of YouTube and promote your YouTube videos to that audience. Some of the most successful YouTubers also have large audiences on their other social networks and giant email lists. Many of these YouTubers get thousands of views on the days they publish new videos.

Which of these methods was your favorite? Do you have any other method for increasing views? Please share your thoughts and advice below.

3 Questions That All YouTubers Need To Ask Before Continuing

September 3, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

YouTube Subscribers

YouTube is a big social network filled with many people. YouTube brings in over 1 billion unique visitors every month, and it continues to grow. Along the way, YouTube has been the main stream of income for some of the people who are crushing it. These people get millions of views for their videos and generate a big profit from Adsense and affiliate links.

As a result of some YouTubers making it big and generating full-time incomes from their videos, many people aspire to become that big. However, it takes millions of views in order to become big on YouTube. Although getting there is a great feeling, it is not easy to get millions of YouTube views. If you want to make it big on YouTube to the point where your videos have been viewed millions of times, you need to ask yourself these three questions.

  1. Are you willing to upload YouTube videos every week?
  2. Are you willing to do this for a few years even if you do not bring in the full-time income right away?
  3. Are you willing to learn more about getting YouTube views?

If you answered yes to all three of those questions, you have the potential to make it big on YouTube. All you need to do is act and know how to get more YouTube views. Which of these three questions had the biggest impact on you? Do you have another question to ask all YouTubers trying to make themselves big? Please share your thoughts below.

5 Reasons Why You Absolutely Positively Need To Take YouTube More Seriously

September 1, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

YouTube Logo

Although YouTube is the leading social network in video creation, and it is also the 3rd most popular website on the entire web, few people are taking advantage of this powerful social network. A majority of YouTube users do not use YouTube to build a presence on the web, and some users have not uploaded a single video of their own to YouTube. If you are like one of the many people who has even never tried YouTube or stopped a while ago, you need to start taking YouTube seriously, and here’s why:

  1. YouTube gets over 1 billion unique visitors every month. That’s more than most websites, and that audience is ginormous. There will be millions of people in that audience who will be targeted viewers. Targeted viewers are the ones who would enjoy viewing videos that match the types of videos you upload on YouTube.
  2. Some people have made full-time incomes on YouTube. The Google Adsense Program is at its prime on YouTube. Some people have been able to make millions of dollars from Google Adsense, and it wouldn’t be so bad to become a part of the seven-figure club.
  3. You can promote your other social networks on YouTube. You can promote the social media icons with YouTube’s channel feature, and you can also promote your other social networks in the actual YouTube video. At the end of every YouTube video, tell your viewers where they can find you, and be sure to tell your viewers to subscribe to your channel.
  4. People watch video content for a long time. If you upload valuable YouTube videos, people will watch your YouTube videos for a long period of time. The longer someone watches your YouTube video, the more likely that person is to subscribe to your channel and follow you on your social networks.
  5. People search YouTube to learn about products and services more than any other social network. That means if you are selling or reviewing products, YouTube is the perfect place to go. People want to see what the product actually looks like and hear someone explain the features. For those kinds of desires, people go to YouTube for the answers. You can start reviewing your favorite products or review your own products. It’s entirely up to you.

Those are the five reasons why you need to take YouTube seriously. Are you going to use YouTube more often and start to take it seriously? If so, these articles may be of good help.

The One Factor That All Popular YouTube Videos Have In Common

August 27, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

YouTube Logo

The person in the video is someone who others would want to listen to.

The fact of the matter is that people are more busy than ever. Some people see their time as extremely precious because they are putting in a lot of work. Other people procrastinate too often, and when they are on task, that time is precious to them since they are rarely on task.

Then comes the need to learn more about the niche. The people who want to learn more about social media, blogging, productivity, and more (that would be you since you’re on this blog), there are two options for obtaining more knowledge. The first option is reading through a blog post, and the second option is watching a YouTube video.

Readers have the advantage of being able to skim through a blog post that would normally take seven minutes to read while being able to retain the main information. On YouTube videos, that opportunity is not presented because skipping through a YouTube video may possibly result in you missing out on important information. Then there’s the frustration of finding your place after you skipped through part of the video as well as the lag time for some videos and computers. This frustration leads to most people leaving the video.

That means you need to be someone who conveys information quickly and makes someone feel as if your video was worth every second. You also want to talk about a topic and talk in a way that people would enjoy watching the entire video.

We all know the difference between a good YouTube video and a bad one. I’m sure you could think of some good ones and bad ones right now (if you are thinking of mine, I encourage you to put them in the good pile of your mind). Make sure your YouTube videos are good enough to the point where your friends would want to watch them over and over again without you hounding them to watch your YouTube video “one more time.”

YouTube videos are supposed to be enjoyable to watch, not a drag. What are your thoughts on using this component for your YouTube videos? Do you have any other important words of wisdom to share for YouTube achievement? Please share your thoughts and advice below.

10 Ways To Come Up With Ideas For Your Next YouTube Video

July 27, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

YouTube Logo

Whether you are publishing one YouTube video every week or every month, it is important to have ideas in place for your next video. The quicker you get the idea, the quicker you are able to plan out your video, record the video, and publish it to YouTube. As you publish more YouTube videos, coming up with ideas that you have not used already becomes more difficult. Luckily, there are always ideas available, and here are 10 of them.

  1. Look at your blog posts. If you write one blog post every day and publish one YouTube video every week, you will have seven times as many blog posts as you have YouTube videos. That means you already have the ideas in front of you. Just take one of your blog posts and turn it into a YouTube video!
  2. Look at other people’s blog posts. See how you can combine your knowledge with someone else’s blog posts to create an original YouTube video. Reading other people’s blog posts will also expand on your knowledge.
  3. Talk about a problem in your niche. People want to know the common pitfalls in your niche so they know to avoid them. In addition to talking about the problems in your niche, be sure to provide the solutions for each of those problems.
  4. Talk about success stories. Chances are there is someone inspirational in your niche who has gone through a lot in order to become successful. You can create a success story for that individual and show others that they can be successful too.
  5. Talk about your own experiences. You may have a success story of your own or just want to talk about what happened to you yesterday. Regardless of what you talk about, you need to connect it back to your niche.
  6. Look at other people’s YouTube videos. Looking at other people’s YouTube videos will allow you to identify what kinds of videos people in your niche are uploading and which ones are the most popular uploads. This can help you identify which videos you need to publish on YouTube.
  7. Look at your past YouTube videos. Maybe you shared a tip in one of your YouTube videos that you want to expand on. It’s also possible that you liked the message in one of your first videos but don’t like the way it came out (it takes a while to get experience). You can create a Part 2 or a better version of an older video.
  8. Any new updates relating to your niche. People who want to learn more about your niche do their best to stay up to date. When something big happens in your niche, you can come out with a new YouTube video explaining what just happened.
  9. Tips about anything related to your niche. Many viewers are looking for good nuggets of information. Providing tips about anything related to your niche gets the job done.
  10. Core values. Whether these are the core values to living a happier life or getting more Twitter followers, talking about them and including “Core Values” in your video’s title will attract attention.

What are your thoughts on publishing 1 YouTube video every week? Do you have any additional ideas for YouTube videos? Please share your thoughts and ideas below.
