17 Ways To Grow Your Pinterest Audience

June 22, 2014 by Marc Guberti 4 Comments

Pinterest growth

There have been many blog posts about Pinterest that go into detail about why you need to be on Pinterest and how Pinterest totally kicks butt in the social media world. However, there are many people who do not know how to successfully optimize Pinterest into a platform that increases sales, traffic, and subscribers. In order to increase your traffic, you need to build an audience around your content. In addition, the audience you build needs to be a targeted one. If your audience has no interest in the things you pin about, then it won’t work. In order to grow your audience on Pinterest, follow these 17 tips.

  1. Follow people who are likely to follow back. The better the ratio of followers to following is, the more likely that person is to follow you back. Don’t follow the people with 100,000 followers who are only following 100 people. Instead, follow the people with 500 followers who are following 500 people.
  2. Pin more content. As you pin more content, you will be able to create an audience that can decide for themselves whether you are the right fit for them or not. If you pin content based on your targeted following, then your followers will stick around, and some of them will repin your pins.
  3. Have a variety of boards. As you create more boards, your targeted audience grows. You can have multiple targeted audiences since you are able to pin about multiple interests.
  4. Have a lot of pins. More people will follow you on Pinterest if they see that your account is active. Most of the people with over 100,000 followers have 5,000 pins, and some of those people also have over 10,000 pins. Quality and quantity are king.
  5. Pin content worth sharing. The more you spread across Pinterest, the more followers you are going to get. Pinning content worth sharing is a very simple way to grow your following.
  6. Verify your website in your bio. Verifying your website in your bio makes you look more authentic. In addition, when people preview your account, they see the giant checkmark. It’s not as effective as Twitter’s blue checkmark, but having the checkmark will be effective enough to get more followers.
  7. Write an attractive bio. The bio is one of the first things most people look at before they click the follow button. In order to write an attractive bio, follow these tips.
  8. Create group boards. Group boards allow more people to know about you on Pinterest because those group boards get featured on other people’s accounts. Having group boards is a great way to systematize Pinterest by having other people update them for you. If you do not have group boards, then you need to create some now.
  9. Comment on other people’s pins. Commenting on other people’s pins allows you to engage with other people. These people will be likely to follow you back so you leave more comments on their pins.
  10. Repin and like other people’s pins. The more you repin and like someone’s pins, the more inclined that person will feel to return the favor by following you. Repinning and liking other people’s pins will also allow you to share more quality content with your followers.
  11. Use hashtags. Hashtags are the SEO for Pinterest, and using hashtags will increase the amount of likes and repins your pin gets at the same time.
  12. Pin infographics. People love infographics, and if you choose a really good infographic, you have a better chance of going viral. One of the infographics I tweeted out to 60,000 followers at the time got over 100 retweets and favorites.
  13. Pin videos. Videos get more engagement because they provide value or humor with the click of a button without leaving Pinterest. The better the videos are, the more likely people will share your pin. All you need to do to find good videos in your niche is by looking around on YouTube. They’ll come up.
  14. Add a Pinterest follow button to your blog. My Pinterest follow button is strategically placed at the sidebar of my blog where it gets a lot of attention. Some of the people who visit my blog also follow me on Pinterest. The great thing about that is if someone follows me after visiting my blog, that person liked my content enough to click the button and then proceed to follow me. That’s a high quality follower.
  15. Run contests. The easiest way to get more followers is to run a contest. Offering a $25 Amazon Gift Card to one of your random followers is an easy and reliable way to run a contest. Your pin will also have a really good chance of going viral on Pinterest. Then, you’ll gain hundreds of extra followers in one day.
  16. Schedule your pins. Once you get followers, it is important to keep them all happy. Once your boards and audience are large enough, you should not share too many pins at the same time. Scheduling your pins will show all of your followers that you are active on Pinterest (people who log in 1 hour after you posted your pins don’t know if you are active or not). In addition, scheduling your pins will prevent you from clogging up someone else’s feed (which often results in unfollows).
  17. Promote your Pinterest pins on your other social networks. Use the audiences that you have already build in order to grow your audience on Pinterest. Many people forget to tap into their existing audiences, but nevertheless, it is a great way to get more followers on Pinterest.

By growing your audience on Pinterest, your content will spread faster on Pinterest and reach more people. Growing your audience will lead to more engagement which will result in your audience growing even larger. By implementing these 17 tips, you will be able to see your Pinterest audience dramatically grow. What are your thoughts on the list? Do you have any additional tips? Please share your thoughts and advice below.

7 Ways To Get More People To Engage With Your Pins

May 7, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

In order to build strong connections on Pinterest, your followers need to engage with your pins. Being on Pinterest and getting people to follow you is not enough. You need these followers to engage with your pins so that you can have longer conversations with your followers. These are the 7 ways to get more people to engage with your pins.

  1. Include a call to action. A call to action encourages someone to do something (click, like, repin) instead of just reading what is there. Pins that include a call to action have 80% more engagement than pins that do not include a call to action.
  2. Pin about trending topics. When topics trend on Pinterest, millions of people are looking at those topics and engaging with the pins about those topics. Pins related to a trending topic get a 90% increase in click throughs compared to other pins.
  3. Pin more tutorial pins. People are constantly looking for more knowledge. They want to learn more about their niche, learn about a certain craft, or learn a random fact. There are many things that you know about your niche that others do not know. Pinning tutorial pins will portray you as an expert in your niche. In addition, tutorial pins see a 42% higher click through rate than the average pin.
  4. Pin when most people are on Pinterest. While most people on Facebook and Twitter use those social networks in the morning, most people on Pinterest tend to be active during the evening. In addition, many people are addicted to Pinterest, and these people are on Pinterest for several hours every day. According to HubSpot, the ideal times to pin on Pinterest are between 2pm-4pm and 8pm-1am It is important to not overlook that the time is 8 at night. The ideal time to post on most social networks is 8 am, but Pinterest is different. There are many night owls who use Pinterest, and it is important to pin at those times to get the most engagement for your pins.
  5. Like and repin other people’s pins. When you repin other people’s pins, those people will get notified that you liked and/or repinned one of their pins. Some of these people will decide to return the favor and comment on one of your pins as well.
  6. Decide whether you want people to share your pin or have a discussion. You will want some of your pins to get shared across Pinterest while you would prefer that other pins build discussions with you and your followers. Pins with a lot of repins are more likely to be shared across Pinterest while pins with more likes encourage more discussion. The best thing to do is have some pins that encourage sharing and other pins that encourage discussion. In order to find out which pins would lead to what effect, you need to see how your followers have engaged with the pins that you have already sent out. If you do not know how your followers engage with your pins, then you need to send out several pins and see which ones get multiple repins and which ones get multiple likes.
  7. Build a targeted following. A targeted following who is interested in what you provide will definitely like and repin your pins. If you talk about sports, and all of your followers love sports, your pins are going to see more engagement. Building a targeted following will also help you when someone clicks on the pin and gets sent to your blog.

These are the 7 ways to build more engagement for your pins. The average pin has a 1.1% click through rate. By using Tips 1-3 in the same pin, you would boost that click through rate to 5.3%. By using tips 4-7, you would get more people to see your pins with those high click through rates. By getting more people to see your pins with higher click through rates, you would be able to get several likes, repins, and comments for your pins.

One Pinterest Tip That Gets Overlooked

March 20, 2014 by Marc Guberti Leave a Comment

There are numerous blog posts on the web that offer tips on Pinterest. I have written several blog posts about Pinterest myself, but I recently came across a tip that many people were overlooking. This tip, if implemented, will result in strong connections with your followers.

When a pin gets liked or repinned, we get notified. Then, the number shows up and we can see how many times our pins were liked and repinned. However, we are also able to see who liked our pins and who repinned our pins.

This is an important feature that can allow us to build stronger connections with our followers. The people who liked your pins are most likely following you. Since that is the case, you can check to see if you are following them. If you find someone who liked your pin but you are not following, you can make the change by clicking the follow button. Following this person will encourage that person to like and repin more of your pins.

In addition, you should go on each of these people’s profiles and thank them for liking your pin. When leaving a “thank you” comment, leave this comment on a pin with no comments and remind the person what pin they liked. Getting this thank you will encourage this person to like more of your pins.

By seeing the people who like and repin your pins, you will be able to see the people who are paying the most attention to what you pin. By finding these people, you will be able to build strong connections that results in your content spreading on Pinterest.

How To Create A Product Review Board On Pinterest

February 13, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

pinterest board

A popular board category is products where pinners show people the products that they like. Some of these boards generate plenty of likes, repins, and they lead to more followers as well. Having a board with a lot of products on it is a great strategy to tell your followers which products are effective and which products are not effectively.

While having the board with all of the products, you can also create boards to review individual products. Some of my boards review the books I have read such as Purple Cow. This board does a good job at reviewing an individual product versus having a giant list of products with brief summaries. Having both the giant list of products and reviews for those products will give your followers the information that they want.

In order to create a successful product review board on Pinterest, follow these steps:

  1. Have a picture of the product. On Pinterest, people need as many pictures as they can get. Have a picture of the product, and if it has certain functions, have pictures of the product doing those functions as well.
  2. Use Pinstamatic to add details about the product. For my board about Purple Cow, I used Pinstamatic to get giant blocks of text. The advantage of Pinstamatic is that you can use different colors based on the color of the product or a color that changes buying behaviors.
  3. Have a picture of the person who made the product. After the picture, briefly explain who that person is, your opinion about that person, and that person’s credentials.

That’s all it takes to create a quality board reviewing an individual product. This process will usually result in a board with 5-10 pins although some individual product reviews will need more than 10 pins to show all of the product’s features.

5 Ways To Double Your Blog’s Traffic

January 21, 2014 by Marc Guberti 2 Comments

The one thing on every blogger’s mind is getting more traffic that will lead to more sales, subscribers, and visibility. Doubling traffic is the dream of many bloggers. Whether that means going from 10 daily visitors to 20 daily visitors or going from 500 daily visitors to 1,000 daily visitors, bloggers want to double their traffic. In this blog post, I will show you five different ways to double your traffic. That means you will be able to get 10 times more traffic than now by implementing these tactics. I decided to add links to some of my older blog posts in order to provide more information about certain topics.

  1. Use Twitter to promote your blog. When you use Twitter to promote your blog, you need to grow a targeted following and consistently tweet frequently. Be sure to start and respond to conversations. Conversations on Twitter have the potential to lead to friendships and powerful connections. I tweet as frequently as I can throughout the day so more people see my blog. Tweeting a link to your blog at 3 pm does no good if most of your followers happen to use Twitter at 6 pm.
  2. Improve your blog’s SEO. By improving your blog’s SEO, people will have an easier time finding your blog on Google’s search engines. These are some tactics that will help you improve your blog’s SEO, but one of the easiest ones to implement is bounce rate. All you have to do is have links to your older blog posts in your new blog posts in order to get a lower bounce rate. After improving my blog’s SEO, my visitors stuck around because of my blog’s low bounce rate, and I saw an immediate increase in search engine traffic.
  3. Use Pinterest to promote your blog too. When you use Pinterest to promote your blog, you need to include pictures on your blog. Adding pictures helped me get a lot of traffic, and adding a “Pin It” button at the bottom of my blog posts increased the amount of times people shared my blog posts. A great way to get more Pinterest followers is by following others with this strategy in mind. As your boards get more pins, it will be okay to pin the same blog post multiple times because people are not likely to scroll all the way down. By consistently pinning old and new blog posts, your blog will be able to get more traffic.
  4. Guest blog on other people’s blogs. Guest blogging puts your content in front of a larger audience. That means more people will tweet your blog posts, share them on Facebook, pin them, and use all of the other social networks to tell more people about you. While it is important to start guest blogging as soon as possible, it is also important to identify the best guest blogging opportunity for you. Although people do not always come directly to your blog from the guest post, they will see your name more often. As people see you more frequently, they will have more trust in you. With that trust, they will look at your blog posts, subscribe to your blog, and buy your products.
  5. Get more people to write about you. These are the methods I use to get more people to write about me. By getting more people to write about you, more people will notice you. Having a remarkable story always helps out when it comes to getting more people to write about you.

Those are the 5 tactics I used to double my blog traffic. By implementing all five of these tactics, my blog went from 40 daily views to over 400 daily views in a few months. All of these tactics take time in order to see the results. However, after a few months, you will be able to see the big increase in traffic that all bloggers dream of.

How I Went From Gaining 10 Pinterest Followers A Day To Gaining 100 Pinterest Followers A Day

January 3, 2014 by Marc Guberti 7 Comments

Get More Pinterest Followers

Since Pinterest is the newest social network, the rules of success are not as established. The rules of success for Twitter and Facebook are common to find on blogs and books. There are not as many established rules for achieving success on Pinterest.

One of the rules to succeed on Twitter is to follow people who are interested in your niche and likely to follow back. I used this method on Twitter and got a dramatic increase in followers. While my Twitter account was growing, my Pinterest account was only averaging 10 followers a day.

I was implementing and testing a lot of methods on Pinterest, but I was still gaining 10 followers a day. While this was happening, my Twitter account didn’t miss a beat. I saw that consistently following people interested in my niche was working on Twitter. The methods I was using on Pinterest were not changing the rate I gained followers, so I decided to follow people interested in my niche on Pinterest.

The results were incredible. I was stuck at around 2,300 followers when I started implementing this tactic. I followed over a thousand people on Pinterest, and I ended up getting 100 new followers that day. On the next day, I gained another 100 followers. I no longer have to follow more than a thousand people in order to gain 100 followers. However, implementing a tactic that I use on Twitter for my Pinterest account allowed me to dramatically increase my following.

Following others is important on Pinterest. You may be the next person to go from gaining 10 followers a day to gaining 100 followers a day.
